I am not very far in my research but I was wondering if any of yall could help me. my gggrandfather is Thomas Payton Rhame and I am not any further than that at this time. What I know about him was that he was born June 28, 1851 in Alabama. He died June 8, 1933 and is burried in Rapides, Louisiana. He married Miranda Pailee Van Melder.

Hi Jenna; I believe I can give you a little nudge down the path of discovery.

Thomas Patton/Paton/Peyton [take your pick] RHAME [b. 28 Jun 1851 in Butler Co., AL; d. 8 Jan/Jun 1933 in Melder, Rapides Par., LA; bur. Pine Ridge Cem., Melder, Rapides, LA; m. Miranda Paralee MELDER on 21 Dec 1873 in Rapides Par., LA (the Van had been dropped from the surname upon arrival from Belgium)] was the son of Ransom Hope RHAME [b. 29 Jan 1810 in Clarenden Co., Sumter Dist., SC; d. 3 Nov 1863 in Rapides Par., LA; bur. Amiable Baptist Ch. Cem., Elmer, Rapides, LA] and Susanna Hopkins MOSLEY [b. 25 Apr 1821in Lowndes Co., AL; d. 30 Aug 1885 in Rapides Par., LA; bur. Amiable Bapt. Ch. Cem., Elmer, Rapides, LA].

Ransom Hope RHAME's parents were Jesse RHAME [b. 4 Apr 1784 in Georgetown Dist., SC; d. aft. 18 Jan 1836] and Amy Anna RIDGWAY [b. 14 Jan 1780 in SC; d. bef. 15 Aug 1844 in AL].

Jesse RHAME's parents were the Rev. Jeremiah RHAME [b. 18 Nov 1730 in Georgetown Dist., SC; d. 1805 in Clarenden Co., Sumter Dist., SC] and Ann Elizabeth BRADLEY.

Family legend says Jeremiah RHAME was the son of Jean REMY who was the son of Abraham REMY and his wife Elizabeth. Abraham REMY and Elizabeth arrived Jamestown, VA on 20 Sep 1700 on the ship, Peter and Anthony, one of four ships carrying some 500 Huguenots [French Protestants] from England.

We mustn't ignore the female lines. Miranda Paralee MELDER was the dau. of Felix VANMELDER [b. 2 Apr 1828 in Miscom, Leuven, Brabant, Belgium; d. 5 May 1912 in Melder, Rapides, LA; bur. Pine Ridge Cem., Melder, Rapides, LA; m. 2 Mar 1850 in Natchitoches, Natchitoches Par., LA] and Sarah WEAVER [b. 19 Apr 1831 in Raymond, Hinds, MS; d. 5 Mar 1910 in Melder, Rapides, LA; bur. Pine Ridge Cem.].

Ransom Hope RHAME's mother, Susanna Hopkins MOSLEY is believed to be the dau. of Elijah MOSLEY and Susannah HUBBARD but evidence is sketchy.

Amy Anna RIDGWAY's parents were William RIDGWAY and Margaret (Peggy) HILTON.

This is getting too long. Please contact me for more. Bob

Attention Bob Martin: Susannah Hopkins Mosley was the THIRD wife of Ransom hope Rhame. We don't know for sure the name of the first wife,, but the name of his SECOND wife is thought to be SARAH ALICE Mosley, a sister to Susannh, or Susan Mosley
Sarah Alice is believed to have died on 24 January, 1843 following the birth of a daughter, Anise, who came to Louisiana with the Ransom Hope Rhame family ca 1858-59. They were shown in the 1860 Census in Caldwell parish. Ransom Hope Rhame died in Rapides Parish 3 November 1863, and is buried at Amiable Church Yard.. With three small children, one of them a new born, he married Susan(Susannah) on 3 March, 1843 in Lowndes County, Alabama.

Thank you Evelyn. I had to reread my posting before I saw the error you pointed out.

Yes, Susannah Hopkins MOSLEY was Ransom Hope RHAME's wife and not his "mother" as I stated. I also agree that she was Ransom's third wife.

Hi my names Bianca. My Mothers Father (My grandfather) was A Rhame. I started doing research on my father’s family first thorough different websites that cost money to join, then found out that Facebook had family Groups were people can exchange information and learn about their families history. I learned alote met cousins I never knew about and even saw pics of my Great Great grandparents. Then I started researching the Rhames & even though there are abover 400 on facebook there was no group. So I just started this group Rhame’s Unite. I hope you join and invite other Rhame & Rhames to join!!

This group is for those who know, love, and bare the great last name of Rhame or Rhames & Is open to all the people with the last name Rhame or of some Rhame Heritage from all over the world, so join the group and represent!!!!

Evelyn,
It's been a long time. I have remarried and moved 5 times since we corresponded. You and I exchanged data back in 1993. I was Sally R. McGill in Birmingham, AL and now I am Sally Randol-Hardy living in Springville, AL.
I am returning to the "Moseley Hunt" and am reviewing your info. In one letter you said that Susannah Hopkins Mosely Rhame was sister to Sarah Alice Mosley Rhame and that both sisters m Ransom Hope Rhame. Also, you wrote that Susannah had a brother named John Womack Mosley b 25 Dec 1818, AL and d Nov 1911 in Rapides Parish, LA. -------
I never asked, but wonder now: What was your SOURCE for knowing about the brother-sister relationship? perhaps an obit? or obits of family members?
I am disappointed to say that there are TONS of incorrect Moseley postings. Lots of wild cutting and pasting of data that has no proof and old theories are intermixed with new theories. It is sad and very confusing.
I am reviewing my old records to make sure I haven't missed something.
Have you had any breakthroughs on your Mosley/Moseley line?
~ Sally

Sally, I regret to report that Evelyn passed away on 4 Nov 2006. She had moved from Winnipeg, Canada back to Shreveport, LA to be near her daughter after several falls.

She was my distant cousin (on the RHAME line) discovered through genealogy and a great friend.

I am so sorry - thank you for letting me know. Evelyn was precious and I am honored to have known her. I have letters from her when she and I were trying to figure out the Mosley/Moseley lines.

Do you know if she passed her love for genealogy to her daughters, or perhaps you are carrying the baton now(?)

I never asked her how she knew that her Susannah Hopkins Mosley Rhame had a brother named John Womack Mosley; she said she suspected it was the man who was buried in the Mt. Olivet Episcopal Cemetery in Pineville, Rapides Parish, LA. At that time I did not see that he connected to my son's line, but others now say, "Yes." I am mailing a request for his death record tomorrow. Hopefully the d 6 Nov 1911 is correct(?)

Evelyn also said that Sarah Alice Mosley, another of the wives of Ransom Hope Rhame, was sister of Susannah. Are there records that connect these women as sisters, or do you know?

I hope Evelyn's daughters will honor her work. Now that I am finally retired, I am going through years of research done by my parents back when it was serious and analytical versus today's cut&paste frenzy.

FYI - My son's paternal line includes John Turner Moseley & Elizabeth Lafoy down through their son, O. Milledge Moseley.

Appreciatively yours,
Sally Randol-Hardy
Springville, Alabama

Sally, you are probably familiar with the information on the Liberty Chapel Cemetery.org web site regarding John Turner MOSLEY being the father of John Womack. That site list neither Sarah Alice nor Susannah Hopkins MOSLEY as daughters of John Turner MOSLEY.

It may have only been circumstantial evidence that led Evelyn to connect John Womack MOSLEY to Susannah Hopkins MOSLEY.

Thank you for the site. I did not know about it. Hopefully, the data can be substantiated with objective source docs.
