Karen, the only list of Jeremiah RHAME, Jr.'s children that I know of is that given in the Sumter Dist. Court document quoted in my previous response. They were: Levy F(rancis) Rhame, A(bel) D. Rhame, O(bediah) Rhame, Martha (wife of John Tindale) & Ann (wife of William Andress).
Jeremiah RHAME, Sr.'s children are: Abigail, Jeremiah, Jr., Ebenezer, Bradley, Asa Benoni & Jesse.
There have been claims of an 1805 will by Jeremiah, Sr. but I could not find it in the Sumter Co. courthouse. Here is the citation:
WILL: Sumter Co., SC; Will of Jeremiah Rhame, Sr.; Dated 2 Nov 1802, Proved 1805; Cited in LDS Batch #7400405, Sheet #01, Source Call #934320; Salt Lake City, UT.
I contacted the lady in South Carolina who submitted the Family Group Sheet and was told that a professional genealogist did the research for her. I then attempted to contact the genealogist in Salt Lake City and learned he was deceased.
Jesse RHAME, the last named child above, is rarely mentioned as a son of Jeremiah, Sr. and the record on him is scanty. A lady in Beaumont, TX has a tattered page, torn from a Bible of unknown origin, shows Jesse's birthdate as 4 Apr 1784. Other records are:
DEED: Sumter Co., SC; Deed Book __, Pg. 226-227; 16 Dec 1799.
John Richburgh of Clarendon Co., to Asa Rhame and Bradley Rhame as guardians for Jesse Rhame of the state and county afsd., 240 acres, on roast hen and Wolf-branch, branches of Sammy Swamp, a branch of Black River, originally granted to John Richbourgh 3 Apr 1786; L40 sterling money.
Signed: John Richbourgh. Wit: Jeremiah Rhame, Jr. and Nathl. Richbourgh.
Proved by Jeremiah Rhame before James Richbourgh, J. P., 15 Nov 1800.
Release of dower by Sarah, wife of John Richbourgh, 16 Dec 1799. Recorded 19 Mar 1803. (Orig. rec. 27 Nov 1800.)
Comment: To me this indicates Jesse Rhame had not reached his twenty-first birthday at time of sale, 16 Dec 1799. Asa and Bradley Rhame, as brothers, were buying for him. Jeremiah, Jr., another brother, was a witness.
A bigger question is: Why does Jesse have guardians if his
father, Jeremiah, is still living?
DEED: Sumter Co., SC, Deed Book __, Pg. 413, 20 Jun 1805.
Jesse Rhame of Sumter Dist. to Asa Rhame of the district afsd., 120 acres in Sumter Dist. on Roast Hen and Wolf branch, branches of Sammy Swamp, originally granted to John Richbourgh 3 Apr 1786 and conveyed to Asa Rhame and Bradley Rhame, as guardians in behalf of Jesse Rhame, $200.
Signed: Jesse Rhame (seal). Wit: Bradley Rhame, Francis (X) Wood
Proved: Bradley Rhame before Wm. Taylor, J. P., 31 Aug 1805.
Recorded: 22 Oct 1805.
Release of dower by Amy Rhame, wife of Jesse Rhame, 31 Aug 1805. Signature: Anna Rhame
Comment: Notice the signature in the dower release is different than the name in the body of the dower release. Jesse's wife was Amy Anna RIDGWAY, dau. of William RIDGWAY & Margaret (Peggy) HILTON.
Comment: This indicates Jesse has reached the age of twenty-one and is consistent with his birthdate as stated on the Bible page.
The division of William RIDGWAY's estate names daughter Amy Anna RIDGWAY as an heir and wife of Jesse RHAME. It states that she had moved to Alabama and since deceased. It is undetermined whether Jesse also moved to Alabama. The William RIDGWAY papers list Amy Anna's children as: Jesse, Ransom and Peggy.
