Is your mother Jackie Kay? I am Ardenia's great-granddaughter. She was first married to a Wiltshire and then Revia.
I have her birthdate as January 2, 1894 in LA-- but I don't know who her parents are- do you?
She married Percy Houston Wiltshire, had a baby in 1913 that didn't survive. Then she had Bonnie Pearl Wiltshire (my grandmother) and Jack Percy Wiltshire. She then remarried to Edgar Revia and had a son Edgar Revia Jr.

I am sure my mom would love to talk to you if you want (she knew Jackie and Cecil).
Please let me know!

Jennifer, I wish I could help you but I don't know anything about the more recent Revia family members. The only reason I did any searching at all on the Revia's is that one of Francois Jr.'s daughters was married to a distant Bunch relative. This was in the latter 1880's. That is the last person I researched. Sorry I don't know more. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, you seem to know alot about the Revia family. I am Ed Revia jr. grandaughter, Richard Revia was my father. Ed passed away in October of 2005. I was hoping you may know of someone that might be able to help me find my half brother Anthony Scott Revia last know to live in Nacogdoches Texas. There are still a few Revia's in Conroe. Any help would be great!! Thanks, Jennifer

Hello Katie;

Well,I hope it's true that you and I are related -- and I earnestly hope that I can prove it. You see, my grandmother, whom I suspect to have been the daughter of Nelville Riviere (the brother of Francois), was a very secretive woman and didn't ever actually identify her parents to her own sons, one of whom was my father. I have been trying to learn facts about this grandmother's heritage for many years and, finally, with the help of a relative of mine who is an excellent genealogist, I have been led to the belief that Nelville Riviere and his wife, Bertha Lewis, were her parents. For this reason, I want to learn all I can about this line of Rivieres. Hopefully, as I do, I will be able to establish facts that will confirm my suspicions. Do you have any data about Francois's brother, Nelville? Have you completed you family tree. Please write back and, when I have more time, I'll explain to you why I have reason to believe that I'm on the right tract. I do hope that you and I are cousins. Next time you write, please send an email directly to my email address which is westrich@mchsi.com and I'll get right back to you. Sincerely, LoLo

Thanks very much for this information. If "your" Francois and "my" Francois are one and the same, this means that all of the individuals you list are distant relatives of mine. What I mean is that if this Francois Rivier about whom you have this data was, indeed, the brother of the Nelville Rivier whom I believe may have been my great grandfather--and I am able to establish this as an irrefutable fact-- then the information you sent me will be a vital (and much appreciated) part of my family tree. Nelville and his wife were married in New Orleans and, later, lived in St. Tammany parish but I do not know where Francois resided. Can you tell me that? Do you hav e any idea when there will be another Riviere family reunion? Sorry about all the questions, but I am most eager. Thanks a million for everything. LoLo

LoLo, I went home to check out what I have on Francoise Reviere. I have the following about Francois Reviere: He married Matilda Cronea, daughter of Charles Cronea 8/22/1850, probably Galveston County, TX. Matilda was b. 2/14/1835 at Sabine Pass, Jefferson Co., TX and died 9/17/1910 at High Island, Galveston Co., TX. They had the following childrenMannie Reviere, Sallie Reviere (who married Archie McCormick) and Amanda Reviere. Charles Cronea is supposed to have been the last living member of the crew of the famous Jean Lafitte. There seems to be quite a bit of information about Charles and his family and my husband's g-g grandmother was married to his son, James, later in life. (They were divorced prior to her death.). I have looked at my excerpt of the 1840 Calcasieu Parish, LA census.Francoise Revier is listed there as head of house, free whilte male, age 30-40, 3 boys living with him, one 10-15, one 5-10 and one under 5; one woman living with him aged 40-50, one female 15-20, one female 10-15 and one under five. Matilda was married to Francoise, Jr. In the 1850 census, Jefferson Co., Tx. Francis Revier, Sr. listed as 48, born in Canada, wife Julia aged 52, b. LA, children still with them, St. Luke, age 20, Amele, age 13 and Joseph, age 7, all males. Frances Revier Jr. listed as age 21, b. LA, Matilda, age 14 b. TX. Charles Cronea is also listed, age 44, b. France, 2nd wife Louisa (Ellender), age 29, b. LA and some children. That is all I have. Hope it helps. Cheryl

Katie, I have seen Francoise Reviere's name in the Louisiana censuses. I can't remember right now where I learned that Sally was descended from Francoise, but it may have come from another researcher. I just recently found Sally at age 18 living with a family on Point Bolivar, Galveston Co., TX in the 1880 census. Sally married Arch McCormick, a son of "Louise" Bunch and a "Mr. McCormick" (so-named in a written family history by one of my husband's great-aunts who was from Galveston, TX. )

As far as my having much information on the Reviere's, I have very little. Like you said, the Reviere name was changed to several others, I would guess because of the way the name was pronounced.
Rev-eaye is one way to say it, my father-in-law said in Rev-eeah, and I have seen it spelled Revier, Revia, Revea, etc. The Reviere's lived in the same area of Louisiana as several of my father-in-law's ancestors and it appears they may have both shifted across the river to Texas as well. Wish I had known to ask more questions of my father-in-law before he died. His aunt Johanna was a well of knowledge and she is the one who wrote the family story. I will go home and do some reading to see what else I know about the Reviere's. Cheryl Carter

Hi Karen... We may have some family ties . Payton's & Revia's of Galveston County, High Island , Tx. South of town, towards the beach and old hwy 87 , on the right side of the road. Is a cemetery where the Revia's are buried. Maybe Payton's as well. I can not recall the name of the cemetery, unless it is called High Island Cemetery.

Joesphine Payton Revia and husband Joesph Revia are buried here. I am almost certain other Revia's as well.

Joesphine and Joesph are my Step- Gr.Grandparents.

I would like to hear from you. I have some info from this family mentioned.

Thanks Paul

If so, any info on Denia would be greatly appreciated.

I know, strange title but I wanted to get y'all's attention! Lyresa

Revias or Reviers, Revieres, or Rivieres of Louisiana

I am seeking information regarding the offspring of Pierre Numa Riviere whose surname has been spelled in various ways. These individuals are Ernest, Anatole, Amanda, Marie, Francoise, Nelville, Charles, Louis and Emile. It is likely that, just as their surname has been spelled in different ways, their given names may also appear with other spellings. I believe that Nelville Riviere (Revia, Revier, Reviere, etc.), who was born in Louisiana in 1856, was probably my great grandfather. If any of these individuals is known to any of you Revia researchers, please contact me either via this message board or directly to my email address, westrich@mchsi.com and I'll get back to you right away.

I'll bet your right in thinking that the Revias and the Rivieres are one and the same. Actually, the reason why I've scanned this Revia family message board is in the hopes that they ARE one and the same. It's really the Riviere family in which I'm most interested. I believe that I may be a descendant of Pierre Numa Riviere who was born in France but whose children, Ernest Pierre Victor, Anatole Antoine, Amanda, Marie Charlotte Corrine, Francoise Amelie Riviere, Charles, Nelville, Louis, and Emile Riviere were all born in Louisiana. Although I have not extablished it as a certainty, I believe that Nelville and his wife, Berthe Lewis may have been my great grandparents. Do you have much information about the Riviere family? Please contact me via this message board or directly to my email address, westrich@mchsi.com and I'll get back to you immediately.
Thanks a lot.
I wonder if your Revia family could be the same as the Riviere family which I am currently researching. Since, in the old days, fairly unusual surnames were often spelled differently, I think that it is probably likely. I am striving to learn more about the decendants of Pierre Numa Riviere, who was born in France but whose children, one of whom was named Francoise (which was also spelled in many different ways) were born in Louisiana. I have reason to believe that one of Francoise's brothers -- Nelville, by name -- may have been my great grandfather. Just in case we're both seeking informtion about the same family, maybe we ought to communicate. Write to me in care of this message board or directly to my email address, westrich@mchsi.com and I'll get back to you at once.

OBIT-Jesse W. REVIA

Obituary that appeared in The Beaumont Enterprise on
Tuesday February 10,2004

"Jesse W. Revia, 90 of Beaumont passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2004.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin in Beaumont, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 - 8 PM Wednesday evening at the mortuary.
As Jesse would tell it, "I was born on July 1, 1913 on a riverboat in Beaumont". He lived in Beaumont most of his life, where he met and married his wife of 53 years, Alma Angelo Revia. Jesse was a man of many talents and occupations, from working for sign companies to running his own upholstery shop. The common thread throughout his life was music. Jesse sang, made and played steel guitars, and played his share of "gigs" in the area including a few radio shows. He was a man who knew a little about most things and a lot about some things.
Jesse is survived by his step-daughters, Patricia Lopez and her husband Kenneth of Beaumont, and Jo Vick and her husband Gerald of Beaumont; daughters, Elsie Williams and her husband Van of Vidor, Darlene Fontenot and her husband Tommy of Beaumont, Patricia Turner and her husband Wilbur of Vidor, and Ann Holcomb of Spurger; brothers, Buck Revia of Vidor and Harold Revia of Kountze; sisters, Norma LeBlanc of Vidor and Midge Eason of Batson; fourteen grandchildren including Kenny Vick, whom he loved as a son, Rhonda O'Neill and Alma Wall; twenty-eight great grandchildren including Justin O'Neill, Blake Busceme, Brooke Toups, Erik Toups, and Christopher Wall; and two great great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support."

Probably just coincidence but my grandmother was Belle Revia (Elizabeth, maybe) of Hardin/Jefferson County, Tx. She married my grandfather William MacFadden Marble and had children, one of which was my father. His name was Frank Louis Marble, born in 1914. His parents died in their early to mid 40's. I know that they are buried in the Spell Cemetery in the Beaumont area. I know that some names were handed from generation to generation in families and though it may only be coincidence the way my grandparents spelled my dad's middle name is not the usual. Perhaps there is a family connection here.

Hi, Revia's. Could the Revia surname be a shortened version of Reviere? I have an ancestor, Sallie Reviere, daughter of Matilda Cronea and Francoise Reviere, Jr. I have seen the Reviere name spelled different ways and in the 1850 census for Jefferson County, Texas, they have Frances Revier, Jr. listed as age 21, born in Louisiana, his father, Francis Revier, Sr. is listed with wife, Julia (Ellender). He is shown as 48 years old from Canada and she is 52 years old born in Louisiana. Could these be some of the same family?

Revia Family Tree

I'm just beginning to research my family history. My dad is Wayne Benton Revia, Sr., born 09/04/41. His dad was Earnest Leon Revia, born 01/31/06 and died 11/75. The siblings of my father are Chales Laffette Revia DOB 01/16/28, Wanda Joyce Revia (Scott) DOB 05/12/37 and Melba Revia, who I do not have information on. The mother of these children (my grandmother) was Josephine Richardson-Revia. I know there are more children, but I cannot find additional information at this time.

If anyone knows of any "branches" on my tree, please post a message to the board. Thanks!
