I descend from Randal Revells who before 1860 changed the family name to HARDIN, legally unknown. At least two of his descendants were named Hiram...and I wonder if they relate to the Hiram Revels you are researching.

I do not know Randal's father's name but suspect it may have been Benjamin Hardin as he lived next door to Benjamin and Holly Byrd Hardin and family at the time of one census report. I am guessing he began life with his mother's maiden name...and the name Randal Revells was used among Revells ancestors....I don't find Randal Hardin...except our Randal, who was born Revels abt. 1820 in Robeson Co., NC.
