Hello Ms. Collins, In reply to your query, my great grandfather was Patrick Renaghan. He and his wife (Martha Beresford-Clarke) met and married in India during the British occupation of the middle of the 19th century. He was born in Armagh(N.Ireland) in 1818 and died there sometime during the beginning of the 20th century, I'm not sure of the date. He and his wife had 15 children (some of whom lived and died in India) so it's possible that your boyfriend(Patrick) is related somehow. The spelling of the name Renaghan in the old days usually depended on whomever wrote it down and how they actually heard it. It stands to reason that the different spelling could be due to this. I would be interested in hearing more from you. Please e-mail me with any details that seem to mesh with this information. Thanks for your reply.
Cordially, Joe Daly

Hi Ed,

I guess I'm a relative of yours too, Joe and I are cousins. Our Grandfather was Leo Peter Renaghan, one of 15 children, of Patrick Joseph and Martha Elizabeth Beresford Clarke Renaghan's children. I believe your grandmother was a sister to my grandfather.
I have lots of information and pictures of the family and also of Armagh etc. My father was Albert Patrick, he was the oldest of 7 children, I am the oldest grandchild of 32.
If you go to the Family History site,(Latter Day Saints) and look up John Clarke, you can get some good info.
Hope to hear from you, Maureen

Hi Jody, nice to hear from you, yes I have a copy of our Greatgrandfather's obituary and will send it, just leave me your address. I've been having a ball with this stuff, it really intrigues me. Habe you been to the Armagh site? It lists the land he owned in 1870 or so and also an Alice Renaghan, I'm not sdure just who she is, maybe a sister or something. sorry about the spelling. I'm trying to find out more about Martha Beresford Clark and where the Beresford comes from. If you gho the mormon site and look up our great great grandfather, John Clarke or no e, it gives some interesting info on his background and pedigree. Also a person by the name of John Lavers from Canada supplied the Info. Would like to talk with him, I,m sure he is a relative too.

Got lots of stuff, get back to me gotta go one of the pups is chewing something!!!!!
love Mo

Hi Sheila,
Joe is my cousin, his mom, Margaret and my Dad, Albert Patrick Renaghan, were brother and sister. My dad was born on March 17, 1909
Our Grandfather was Leo Peter, he was one of thirteen, his father was Patrick Joseph, who was married to Martha Beresford Clarke. The Clarkes were from England but the Renaghans were from Armagh, Ireland.
Do you have any more Info, Imthink maybe you are one generation ahead of Joe and I. It's possible that your g,g,g grandfather was a brother to our g g grandfather Patrick.
Do you have anymore dates beyond Patrick and Mary? Keep in touch, my e-mail address is Poodlenell@aol.com Maureen Renaghan Ziko

More Renaghans in Armagh

I have just begun to trace my family name here in Derrynoose in Co Armagh to my grandfather (Michael) b 1884 d 1943 , my g grandfather Peter and my g g grandfather Michael. Our neighbours, decendants of a Barney Renaghan claim no relation, but I hope to find otherwise. I will post more info as I find it.

More Renaghans in Armagh

I am from perhaps different clan of renaghans in Derrynoose near Keady in Co Amagh. My Grandfather was Michael Renaghan, died circa 1943. He had a brother, who died as an infant, and three sisters - Mary Ellen who I think went to England, Bridget and Margaret.
An Alan Ronaghan from Canada has traced his ancestors to these parts and has found a lot of info. I'll check these sources again and report back later

Gerry

Any known connections between the Renaghans of Armagh and those of Down? I have a fair amount of Down info. My family is usually recorded as Ranaghan, but sometimes as Renaghan or Ronaghan. Thanks. Kevin R.

My paternal grandmother's name was Catherine Renaghan. her mother's last name was Roch (possibly Rock, pronounced Rock). Her family is from Armagh. Please get back to me, what are the chances of two different Renaghan clans from Armagh?
