Enoch Remick

Enoch died in Tamworth, but I don't know if he was buried there. Here is what I have on his children.....

Generation No. 1

1. Enoch4 Remick (John3, Jacob2, Christian1) was born April 01, 1730 in Kittery, York, Maine, and died May 11, 1800 in Tamworth, New Hampshire. He married Abigail Trefethen June 23, 1753 in Kittery, York, Maine. She was born July 03, 1733, and died December 16, 1829 in Tamworth, New Hampshire.
Enoch was a taxpayer in the Upper Parish in 1752. He served in the French Wars in the Kittery town militia in 1757. He was a shipwright by trade. He later moved to Newmarket, NH where he was living from 1768 through 1778. In 1779, Enoch moved north to Tamworth, and his homestead there was still present in 1894.
On 29 November 1763, Joseph and Anne Burley of Newmarket sold Enoch Remick of Kittery, a shipwright, twenty acres of land and one acre of marsh in Newmarket; Benjamin Remick and Joseph Ham acting as witnesses.
Enoch bought five acres more in Newmarket of John Burleigh on 30 April 1769. He sold the marsh to James Hill of Newmarket on 15 August 1769. He was a signer of the Association Test in Newmarket in 1776.
He bought on 12 July 1779, from David Chapman of Newmarket, 200 acres of land with the buildings thereon, for 3,000 pounds, situated in Tamworth.
Two of Enoch's sons were taken prisoner in the Revolutionary War. James, the eldest, died in captivity. Daniel, the second son, died soon after his release from prison.

James served in the Revolutionary War. He was taken prisoner and died soon after his release. [in the SAR roster, there is a James Remick, Revolutionary War veteran, who married Anna Parry and is buried in John Jones place Cemetery, North Berwick, Maine.]
3 ii. Daniel Remick, born Abt. 1758 in Kittery, York, Maine; died Abt. 1777.
Daniel was taken prisoner in the Revolutionary War, and died soon after his release.

4. Enoch5 Remick (Enoch4, John3, Jacob2, Christian1) was born June 03, 1762 in Kittery, York, Maine, and died March 28, 1835 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married (1) Rebecca Ayers January 11, 1793 in Tamworth, New Hampshire, daughter of Benjamin Ayers and Elizabeth Dunham. She was born November 02, 1765, and died August 12, 1821. He married (2) Mary Ann Teel January 25, 1822 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born April 29, 1772, and died September 13, 1847.
Enoch made nails at Tamworth, and was originally trained as a ship carpenter. As Enoch Remick, Jr., he was Collector of Taxes in 1787, and is said to have owned a house there in 1789. He moved to Philadelphia that year, and he is listed in the 1797 Philadelphia Business Directory as owner of a boarding house at 104 Swanson Street.

13 i. John6 Remick, born January 01, 1794 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died March 09, 1848. He married Elizabeth Corrie July 19, 1818.
John and Elizabeth had no children.
14 ii. Sarah Remick, born April 24, 1796 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died May 31, 1846. She married Silas E. Densmore May 23, 1816.
15 iii. James Remick, born March 30, 1799 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died June 19, 1861 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Markley March 10, 1825; born September 06, 1801; died January 15, 1873.
James was listed in the 1850 Philadelphia Business Directory as a hatter, living at 595 N 2nd.
16 iv. Daniel Remick, born November 01, 1802 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died May 05, 1857 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Latimer June 04, 1826.
Daniel is listed in the 1850 Philadelphia Business Directory as having a clothing establishment at NE Pine and 2nd Street.
17 v. Robert Remick, born August 14, 1805 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Robert left Philadelphia for the West in 1826, and was never heard from again. A Robert Remick married __?__ Campbell on 4 Sep 1854 in Lafayette, MO.
18 vi. Enoch Remick, born June 13, 1808 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; died January 11, 1858 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married (1) Catharine Gaul; born June 12, 1795; died June 16, 1882. He married (2) Elizabeth Smith February 12, 1833.
Enoch is listed in the 1850 Philadelphia Business Directory as a tailor at SE 6th and Sassafras. He lived at 74 Buttonwood.


5. John5 Remick (Enoch4, John3, Jacob2, Christian1) was born August 08, 1763 in Kittery, York, Maine, and died February 08, 1849 in Tamworth, New Hampshire. He married Elizabeth Evans April 13, 1786 in Salisbury, Massachusetts, daughter of Jonathan Evans and Elizabeth True. She was born July 22, 1764 in Salisbury, Massachusetts, and died June 05, 1809 in Tamworth, New Hampshire.
John was a joiner and shipwright by trade. He was living in Salisbury, MA at the time of his marriage. About 1812, he moved with his sons to Industry, NH where he was a farmer and carpenter. He served as a Corporal in Capt. Moses Yeaton's company, Joshua Wingate's regt, NH Troops.
The Remicks were prominent men there and of good position. John was living in Chesterville in 1831, in Madison in 1837, and was a housewright in Chesterville in 1838. In his old age, John apparently moved back to Tamworth, where he had purchased land of Enoch Remick on 14 Feb 1829. He is buried in Tamworth.
