William was a tax collector in Tamworth in 1803. He moved to Industry in March 1805. There was a barn on this property, but no house, so the family lived in the kitchen of Daniel Luce's house for six weeks. Then they constructed a temporary home from corn cribs, and after the spring planting they built a one-story house. William bought trees and set out an orchard, and later planted a nursery and sold trees to the neighboring farmers.
In 1820, he served as town treasurer of Industry. An excellent penman, he was elected clerk of the Congregational Church in 1812, and served until he moved to Dover in 1831.
About 1831, William sold out his interests in Industry and moved to Dover. He later moved to Glenburn, where he and his wife both died and are buried.
