Any Other Reibels out there?

Hello! Glad to have found this board, with any luck we can help each other out!!
My branch of "Reibel"s came to the US in 1889 or 1890 and settled near Pittsburgh, PA. William, my g.g.grandfather, had nine children. I can only partially trace them, though.
My g.grandfather Christ had three brothers, Joseph (b.1878?, Germany), Henry (Heinrich, b.1883, Germany) and John, b.1894 in Pittsburgh) Henry is shown in Census Records in 1920, but the other two brothers aren't listed. Family stories are that the brothers moved to Michigan, to Indiana, and even to South America!! I am hoping that one of these names is familiar to someone.
I am trying to figure out where in Germany William emmigrated from. Every document I have found, from census records, church records, death certificates, etc. only lists "Germany" with no town or city. I have a "Reibel" connection in Germany I have been corresponding with for almost two years, and I would like to make the connection!
My email is areibel@netscape.net, I'd love to hear from anyone even with a remote possibility of being related.

Hi,
Thanks for you reply. Any help would be appreciated. William and Mary Reibel had a son, Francis. He married Christina Hoffmann and had about ten kids (would be happy to compare on this). My granddad being the youngest, Alphonsus. I do not have any Bernard currently in my tree so I would love to try and put it together? Was Bernard in Australia?

Cheers,
Michael.

Hello and nice to hear from you. I see that Francis (Franz in Germany) Reibel is the son of William and Mary Reibel. I don't see a son by the name of Alphonsus, however my data may be incomplete. I show that Francis Reibel and Christina "Annie" Hoffman had 6 kids (but there may be more). If your grandfather is the son of this Francis, he would be the first cousin of my grandmother (who was the daughter of Francis' younger brother Bernard). I show that Francis died on May 21, 1920 from choking on a piece of meat.

Hello all,
I have recently aquired a photography (Original) of a young girl with Francis Reibel written on the back. I'd say she is about 7-9 years old and is posed in a photography studio. If anyone is interested in aquiring this photograph, please let me know within the next week. It's most likely turn of the century, but I am not an expert.
Thanks!
Amber

Orignal Photo of Francis Reibel

This is a repost of an orignal post in 2003.

I purchased an orignal photograph of a young girl (age 3-5) named Frances Reibel (written on back of photograph.) The picture was taken by the New York Gallery, Harrie Rose at 391/2 E. Wash St. Indianapolis, IN. If anyone can prove this is their family, I'd be happy to let it go for what I paid for it- which was $5.00. I know how valuable things like this are, and I only hope that if anyone ever see's a picture of someone in my family they would do the same for me. I am guessing by the style of dress, it's turn of the century, perhaps earlier. She is wearing a large pearl brooch in the photo, and is wearing a very fancy well made dress. Hope this helps someone.
*Please note I am not related or do I know anything about the Reibel family.*

My g,g,g,grandfather's name was Joseph H. Reibel, Sr.. He lived in New Albany, Indiana, which is right across the Ohio River from Louisville. Maybe he is related to your Jospeh. He was born in 1832 in France or Germany. (Depending on what record you look at!) He was married to a woman named Eva and had three children in New Albany: Joseph Jr., Henry, and Mary. He died in 1888 and is buried on a big family plot in Fairview Cemetery in New Albany. Do you know if your Joseph had any family in the area? I do not know when my Joseph came over. There might be a connection.
I'm not sure when they came to the states from Germany and I'm not sure if this is the correct spelling. Joseph Reibel m. Mary Mcdermitt, they had several children Joseph, Mary, Annie, John. Annie is my gggrandmother, m. Frank McElroy in 1884. She was born 1859 and he in 1858. They had 6 girls in Colorado. I have info on both of their parents. Reibel is originally from France. I'm not sure if it's a french or german name. I would love to know more info on the Reibels- they apparently were very wealthy in Louisville Ky. And owned race horses. Mary died and Joseph rem. a women w/2 daughters of her own. If this is familiar to anyone, I would love to talk to you!!

Great grandfather Fred Reibel was a pianomaker in Boston. He is listed in the 1890 census. There is also a record of him living in Revere, MA. Beyond that, we have no other information. There are 2 Freds that I have found - Fredolin and Frederick. There are a good many Reibels on the web. Ancestry.com is one place to look, and gedcoms are another. Rootsweb has them as well. If you go to your internet homepage and search for "Reibel" you'll get a list. If not, contact me and I'll send you what I have. Don't forget - there are many spellings, and we found our ancestors listed as Rebel. The way names were pronounced by German speaking people gave our family names some "good" spellings. Good luck!

PS: Reibel

I forgot to tell you that our Reibels also came from the Alsace area. They most likely emigrated in the late 1800's. Have you looked in France? There are a ton of them there, probably from when the German area was taken by France.

Reibel - France

I am seeking information on Florent Reibel born 20 Nov 1843 in the area of Lille, France. He emigrated and lived in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. His father was Jacob M. Reibel and his Mother is unknown.

Florent married Louise (Sunemnburg) which I feel is a misspelling of her last name and she is supposedly from Posen, Germany.

Known children are Anna, John, Henry, Lillian, Elisabeth, Edward and Emma.

Gladly share whatever I have on the family.
