Wow, this is about 12 years late, but I married a great-great grandson of Benedict Rego from Westford Twp, Richland County, Wisconsin. Benedict married Elizabeth O'Regan (1829-1889) in Ireland. There first child, Anthony, was born in New Jersey in 1857, but their other three were born in Wisconsin. My husband and I are in Mauston right now, and tomorrow we are going to the Richland County History Room in Cazenovia to see what we can dig up about the family.

Benedict's grave stone in St. Bridgets cemetery says "Benjamin Rego - France - 1827-1896." But other family records call him Benedict. The family story is that he came to America with 2 other brothers, but we don't know who they are. And he and his family supposedly lived in a cave near Cazenovia, maybe just for a winter, when they were starting out. They carved their names in the cave, and relatives have seen it, but when we visited last year, we couldn't get to the entrance.

I hope you write soon! I will share everything I discover.
