Re: August Reetz married to Eileen Hoag in Alaska

Aunt Eileen and I have been in contact since we engaged in an email conversation about her book and former husband August Reetz. Originally I saw an ad for a copy of the family history book available from the Anchorage Library, I contacted them about it and received the copy. Then someone in an Alaska governmental department of some sort, having seen the library correspondance, ended up contacting me about a picture of Augie Reetz for a report, memorial or some such on his service to Alaska in his work capacity. That led to me asking my Mom about her last known address for Aunt Eileen, and I put her and the Alaska person in contact. Since then Aunt Eileen and I have corresponded on and off. That's all I know. You can contact me dierctly via ehoag@rickengineering.com. I don't have a computer of my own, and don't want one. I have driving ponies, and I work on a computer all day, so the last thing I want to do on my time way from work is to get on a computer. Going thru Ancestry.com is too clumsy for me, and I only signed into Facebook because of work. Too many passwords!!! to remember!!! Hope all is well with you and yours. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Carl August Reetz who remained in Saginaw was my 4th Grandfather. His son was Charles A.F. Reetz. Who lived in Saginaw, had a son Edward who also lived in West Branch for a time. He had a son Donald that lived on a dairy farm in West Branch for about 10 years and I am the daughter, Judith. I would like to attend the Reetz reunion in W. Branch I know we are related. August and Christopher came over together on the ship in 1856 they were 21 and 18 years old. Contact me at judi699@gmail.com

Hi, Ms. Hoag, I am the Alaska Department of Fish and Game librarian at Alaska Resources Library, in Anchorage, Alaska. I just happened to see your post on this forum regarding your aunt's book. The reason I am contacting you is that I am trying to find a photo of Augie Reetz, who was a former ADF&G Commissioner and was married to your aunt. Do you happen to have a photo in electronic format you can send me? I have looked in a number of sources and haven't found a good photo yet. ADF&G is revamping its web pages and wants to post a photo of each former commissioner. I will also check your aunt's book (Loussac Library has a copy) to see if I can find an adequate photo. Thanks for any help you are able to provide.

Celia Rozen, ADF&G Librarian
Alaska Resources Library & Information Services
3211 Providence Drive, Library Suite 111
Anchorage, Alaska 99508
(907) 786-7676
(907) 786-7652 fax
celia@arlis.org

I believe you have a book published by my Aunt Eileen Hoag, my Father's sister. My home burned down in 2003 along with all my possesions. It is funny to see something like this, which makes me say, "oh yeh, and that is gone too" like you keep expecting things to still be there. Anyhow, I recognized the married name Reetz, and would be intersted in the book. Our family is very small, but is also very spread out, so we don't keep in contact with extended family members. I don't think my Aunt even really remembers she has a niece named after her, or at least that was the impression I got on the one and only time I met her several years ago. Still it would be nice to have some info about the family's past since so many have passed on already, and soon there won't be anyone left to ask.

I am Robert Reetz's son. My dad died in 1982 and his brother William died in about 1975-6. Nora Bransfield was my grandmother who came from Ireland early in the century and married Williams Reetz. Nora Bransfield had at least two brothers that I am aware of, one in Boston and another that moved to Chicago.

I understand Nora had siblings that moved to New Zealand, in fact, I recall one that visited us at our house before Nora died (I think because that was in the early 60s).

April 8, 1915 in Lucas County, Ohio) married Charles William ALLEN. Mary's siblings include Winefred REETZ, William F. REETZ (b. 1884 in Ohio - d. July 29, 1953), and August J. REETZ (b. Abt. 1887 in Ohio - d. September 29, 1927 in Ohio).

I believe that Mary's father may have been born in Germany and possibly married a woman with the last name of BADEN. (That's not for sure... just family oral history and the memories aren't that strong.)

Here's hoping for a connection somewhere!
Hope M. Nagley
harvestorm@buckeye-express.com
Toledo, OH

Re: William F. REETZ death cert.

Pat,
I may have a connection here. The brother of my great-great-grandmother Mary Reetz was a William F. Reetz. I know it is not his death certificate because the dates do not match. However, the dates do fit the approximate time that would match their father possibly. I don't have any information on him though (not even his name) so I don't know for sure. But with the name being so exact and the dates being so close it is at least a possibility. I would appreciate any information the death certificate may contain that would help me here - especially since I have pretty much hit a wall with this line of my tree.

Thanks,
harvestorm@buckeye-express.com
Hope M.
This post is an effort to locate a cousin of mine, have not seen or heard from her in several years.

Her name is Cheri, her maiden name was DAVIS, the last I knew she lived with her husband and children in Arizona.

Husband's name was Thomas Reetz and childrens names were Tom and Michelle. When I saw Michell REETZ, I thought why not give it a try, what have I got to loose. I have called several REETZ listings I found on the internet and have had not luck. I have not seen or of this cousin since our Grandmother DAVIS died several years ago. Cheri's father's name was William or "Bill" DAVIS, he is buried in Schuyler, Nebraska.

Please respond and let me know, would love to make connections, it has been too long.
Thanks!

Michael DAVIS
Atkinson, Nebraska
I’m not sure if we have a connection here or not but I do see some similarities.

My great grandfather was “Frank Fredrick Reetz” He was born in about 1870. I see some of the similar names in your list of Charles (Carl)’s siblings. So he is of the same generation. Those are the similarities.

The differences are: I believe my Frank Fredrick’s father was named John, but am not 100% sure. He had a brother Rudolph with whom he emigrated to America.

What part of Germany is the town located in? I have reason to believe that my ancestor Frank Fredrick was from East Prussia in an area that is now Poland.

Let me know what you think.

David Reetz
My GGGgrandfather is Ferdinand Reetz. He was born in Kolmar, Poznan, Prussia on 14 May 1841. His siblings are Christoph, Gustav & Paulina. They were born to Anna Justine Koepp (b. 1812)and Christoph Reetz (b. 1804). Christoph senior died in 1851 in Prussia. Anna Justine re-married and immigrated to Neshkoro, Wisconsin, USA with the children and her new husband August Prachel.

I am looking for further information on the parents of both Christoph and Anna Justine. I have found possible information on their marriage on the Poznan Project website, however Christoph is listed as "Gottlieb Christoph Reetz." Parent for Christoph is listed as Michael (father) and parent listed for Anna Justine is Georg (father).

Any additional information would be appreciated.
