Do you know anything about Mahala Rector (b. 1875 in Parrsboro, NS, d. 1938 in Norfolk, MA), daughter of Charles Edward Rector and Agnes Rector (Rector was Agnes's maiden name too)? Mahala married Matthew McCarron (b. 1868 in Joggins Mines, NS, d. 1900 in Springhill, NS). They had two children, Mary Alfretta (b. 1897 in Springhill) and John Hugh (b. 1900 in Springhill).

Matthew died in March 1900, two months after John Hugh was born. I know that Mary Alfretta was given up for adoption. Mahala moved to Massachusetts and went by the name Mildred. She married Sigfrid Carlstrom there in 1905. John Hugh was not with her in the US, so he may have been given up for adoption too.
