This in response to Marion Fleming's query posted 22 January 2000 (Message #69).
William Rea was my great grandfather. He died in 1878 in Sydenham, Ontario. His wife, Margaret, died in Watertown, New York on 12 September 1901. I'm not really sure where either of them was buried.
I have an abundance of information on their descendents. Joseph was one of 12 children (nine boys, three girls). His brother, James Franklin, was my grandfather. I was in the process of trying to trace Joseph Rea. The only information that I had was that he lived in Brandon, Manitoba at the the time of his mother's death in 1901. One of Joseph's brothers, Charles, lived in McGregor, Manitoba at the time of his mother's death.
I'd be pleased to share all the information with you that I have and you could fill in some blanks for me on Joseph Rea.
Incidentally, the information I have suggests that William's wife's name was Margaret McFarlane. We'll have to talk about that.
Please email me so we can get this exchange started!

I just found your reply to Fleming today. I am wondering if my great grandmother might have been one of those 11 children? She was Lilly Ann Rea, born about 1820 in Armagh, Ireland. She came to Canada-date? and married George Clark by 1848. They had their first child, Anna, christened at St Andrew's Presb. church in Kingston in 1849. I have the 1851 census of Frontenac Co. showing William in Sydenham, but haven't been able to find names of his children. Would you kindly reply to the board or e-mail me- and let me know if there is a possibility I'm right. Thanks so much.

Surnames: Rea, Harrison
Hello,
I am looking for a Margaret Rea born abt.1817 in Ireland, who came with her family to Ontario, and married Robert Harrison.
Her father was possibly John Rea,who is present on the 1871 Ontario census in Peterborough County.
Thanks

Description: Obituary: William Rea

Date: February 1919

Newspaper published in: Grand Valley

Rea-East Garafraxa's oldest resident passed away Friday morning (Feb. 7, 1919) in the person of William Rea, in his 95th year. He had only been bedfast for a few days, though for a long time he spent most of the time on his couch. While past the age for work he retained all his faculties till the end. He was a great reader, kept posted as to current events and closely followed the features of the great war with interest. The late Mr. Rea was a native of County Antrim, Ireland, coming to Canada about 62 years ago. After a year or so in Eramosa he came to Garafraxa, first working for the late Wm. Rea at Hereward, and afterward buying lot 15, Con. 14, at present owned by his son, Robert, with whom he lived. His wife died 30 years ago. A large attendance at the funeral on Sunday bespoke the kindly esteem in which he was held by young and old, the remains being taken to Greenwood cemetery for internment. Elder John H. Taylor conducted the funeral services.
