Hello Silvo - I am from the Seattle, Washington, USA area.
I have many relatives (Grandparents) and family friends from Mattie & Meana di Susa.
Some of the surnames that I am familiar with in the this area are Parisio, Tonda, Re, Favro, Ainardi & Belmondo. These people came from the Mattie area.
Also Maiero, Bernard, Peirolo Banda, Cordola & Boley from the Meana area.
I have noticed that people from Mattie & Meana, when they immigrated, settled in about three areas - Seattle-Renton; Ontario - Huntsville, & Eastern Pennsylvania - Heilwood etc.

Many thanks Rich for your replay.
I beg pardon if I could not have written immediately.

I'm very interested about history of families that you have reported.
My family is related with Belmondo (my mother), RE (husband of sister of my great grand-father emigrated in USA in the 1909. Please see history on this page: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=2308161&BRD=10...)

I made research, with friends, about Pelissero Family (my wife's family) in Meana di Susa (and now we have complete family tree - more of 1.000 Pelissero's records - from 1580), Tonda family in Mattie (now until 1750, but I can go back until 1664). Also Belmondo and RE are family that I know until 1770.

I'm in touch with Giorgio Jannon that he has wrote the book "Il sogno nella valigia" ... "the dream in a valise" where you can find a photo (page 104) with 105 emigrants from Mattie (Jul 4, 1905, Renton). If you like to receive this book (wrote in Italian) I'm pleased to send it to you like a gift.

I'm particularly interested to find relations about Re family (from Alessandro RE and Belmondo Maria emigrated on November 1909 - see: Ellis Island records).
You can read about my searches on Indiana Gazette that I mentioned above.

I'm in touch with Pelissero family members (cousins of my wife) in Pittsburgh PA and Auburn CA, in Chicago and MN, and I developed relationship with Claretto Family members (descendent from emigrant of Novalesa) in Terre Houte IN.

I hope to keep in touch with you and members of Mattie and Meana's families for to go on in common researches and give to our sons the little-great history of our ancestors.

I'll be very happy to give you results from Mattie and Meana archives, from Civil Archives and from Italian State Archives of Torino.

You'll can write me also on my private mail: siltonda@hotmail.com).

Grateful for your replay.
Silvio.

In checking the message boards, I saw a message you had posted way back in 2001. As you were writing from Susa, perhaps you can provide some information about your area.

My Great grandparents were ENRICO LUSARDI and LOUISA LUSARDI LUSARDI. Yes, her name as a single and as a married woman were the same. Family tradition holds they were not related, but I am not sure as I do not have marriage certificates nor immigration papers. They came to the U.S. probably before 1892 and as early as 1889. ENRICO was in the Swiss Guard - we have a picture of him in uniform. He died in Massachusetts about 1895 or 1896

They both came from the town of MONTE SOUSA. This is how my grandfather said it was spelled, but perhaps it is correctly spelled as SUSA. My grandfather said it was very close to the French border, so close that his parents spoke both French and Italian.

Do you know of this town or where exactly it is or was located? Old maps have not been of much help. I would be grateful for anything you may be able to tell me about the area.

Thank you. I am a researcher from San Jose, California

Hello,

I don't know about Lusardi surname in Susa, but next Monday I'll try to hear the Civil Register about it.

We are 17 km far from french border, and languages situation is as You write.

I never heard about MONTE SOUSA.
I'll think about similar sound and later I send you news.

Best Regards.

Silvio

Yes i can say this is true. My great grandparents came from Mattie italy the last name Ainardi over the years and during world war 11 the shame the family changed their name to either Anardi or Anarde to hide the Italian identity , but yes all of my family settled in the renton, kent tukwilla area.

Silvio,
I am sorry I do not have any information regarding Alessandro or Silvio. However, my Great Grandfather Beniamino Re (father, Antonio) was born in Mattie in 1894, immigrated to US in 1914. The address listed on the ships manifest was in Pennsylvania. I'm not sure if it is near Heilwood, but it I do know it was a mining town. He did not stay long in PA. There might be some connection...
