Looking for information about Lars Larsen Rask - born in Frederikshavn, Denmark in 1822.

He immigrated to the US sometime between 1857 and 1895 - probably closer to 1857.

Lars wrote to the family in Denmark in 1896 and 1897. His address at that point was Montpelier, Bear Lake, Idaho. He signed the letters "Lars Larsen" - so he might have given up Rask.

Any information is appreaciated.

Hello!
My name is Camilla H Fernandez and I'm Swedish living in France, but my mother is Finnish and her grandfather was Kustaa (Gustav in more Swedish terms) Albert RASK born in 1875 (not for sure ) but died 1926 the 5th of June. One of his brothers moved to USA and my mom can still remember when her mother (my grandmother) got gifts and letters from the states with shoes, handbag and with a funny smell..
We do know that the Rask family on our side might have come from a military source in Småland Sweden. But fr.o.m. there I'm lost...
I also found a link, have a look and you'll might find it quite interesting
concerning Rask.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/print.cgi?raski::1.htm...
Hope this will give you a red line to follow.
Camilla H Fernandez

Kia Ora Jenny,

My Great Grandmother was Cora Larsen Rask, she married Claude Skerrett. Her father was Karl Larsen Rask... I always thought that's how his name was spelt.... however, I've recently found (via the net of course!) that his name was also spelt Carel Friederich Larsen Rask. I haven't been able to come up with much on this line of my ancestry, but if I find anything I'll let you know! Are you in New Zealand? because there are a whole lot of us Skerrett's here that descend from Nanny Cora, My grandfather (her son) is Claude Ramon Skerrett, he's 81 years old... I hope to be able to get as much info out of him as possible over the next few years, my sisters and I are very keen to get as much info on our non-maori lines so that we know where else in the world we come from... hope to hear from you!

This all the info I know:

my great-grandmother, Amanda Rask, was born in Mankato. I know that she married Karl Rask. Both of their DOB's are near 1880.

On my other side, My great grandmother was Marie (Rada? I think) Skarda. She was born Nov. 30, 1883 in Bechyn, Czech. She married Joseph Skarda, born 1877 in Mlaka, Czech in 1877.

I would appreciate any leads from anyone. Thank you for any who reply

Hi Marlyn: Thanks for the reply. Since I posted my message in January, I have been in touch with Richard Rask and his sister Linda. We are indeed related. Do you live in Bismarck? If so I hope to meet you as I am planning on making a trip there the first part of October. I just returned from a 3 week trip to Alaska, and had a pile of mail and e mail to catch up with. Looking forward to meeting my South Dakota relatives and sharing information and pictures.
Carol Sue Johnson Easter

They were all born in PA. Albert was married to Anna Guthrie, so i am pretty sure this is not the same Albert...but he had a large family.

Hi, my great-grandmother was named Florence Christy Amelia Rask. She was born Aug. 5, 1865 somewhere in Denmark and died May 21, 1949 in the Western United States, probably Idaho. I am searching for her parents and her exact birthplace. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I might be able to help. I think maybe you have Idaho mixed up with Iowa. There are a lot of Rask's around here (my step-dad is one) and I have an old family bible of my dad's dad's (oscar) I will look in it tonight. Mail me privatly for any other information at
Ciana.Taylor@Lycos.com ~Ciana

Rasks in Wisconsin

Is your Rask family Swedish? My gr-gr-grandmother is Christine Rask. She came to the US in August 1869 and ended up in Wisconsin. Surnames of her descendants are Blouson (spelling varies), Hegge, and Dahl.

Her parents are Jan Erik Rask and Helena Larsdotter Rask. The whole family came over at once. Children are: Lars Erik, Christina Catharina, Emma Charlotta, Carl August, and Ida Augusta. I have birthdates for all plus another generation back on the parents plus Helena's siblings if anyone wants to know those. This Rask family was from Fellingsbro Parrish, near the town of Finnakers, in the county of Orebro, Sweden (a friend in Sweden found them for me).

Anything familiar here? There are Rasks from Norway, Denmark, and Germany too. I have a suspicion that these Swedish Rasks from Orebro are actually of German ancestry back to the 1200s when Germans came into Orebro, to Finnakers, to start the foundry industry there. "Rask" just doesn't fit the naming conventions of the rest of the families in that area and the name seems most prevalent in Germany.

Deb

I just discovered your message. I have an ancestor from the Frederickshavn region named Lars Rask. He was married to a Marianne Jensen. Family stories indicate that he became a Mormon and came to the USA. However, his son, my grandfather, later immigrated to the USA in the 1870's. The geneological data I have uncovered indicated that his wife may ahve remarried because she was later known as Marianne Mortenson. If this is the case, I may have some information.

Cousins in Mankato area of Minnesota

My mother talked about going to see cousins in Minnesota when they came to America in the early 1900s. I have pictures of many people in the Mankato area and, I believe, I have lovely pictures of the Rask cousins, but there is no identification on them. My mother was one of the daughters of Peder Paulsen who also lived in Mankato for some time before WWI. If anyone knows who they are or who would be able to identify pictures of people from that era in Mankato, I certainly would like to hear from them.
Rasks in Mankato

My previous note said that I have pictures of Rasks. They are unidentified, but they belonged to my mother who said they came from Norway to their cousin's in Mankato. I have sent a large group of pictures from Anne Marie Paulsen's collection to the Mankato Historical Society since I was not able to further identify them. Whether or not the Rasks are in them I do not know, but I do have large pictures which I would like to send to the family who should have them. My grandfather arrived in North Mankato about 1910 and also lived in Mankato. Since the Rasks were already here, one can judge from that as to when they came, but I do not have their names in my files. It may be that a girl cousin married a Rask and who knows if he was from Norway! Hope this means something to somebody. I could have my son put their pictures through the computer, but not before the end of September.

Sincerely, Alice

Re: Rask Background

Nelson Joseph Rask was the eldest of 4 children born to Larson Rask and Mary E. (Atwood) Rask. Marriage license for Lars & Mary was issued in March 1880, at Smith County, Kansas. Larson;s age was given as 52 which would make his birth date 1828 +/- a year. Mary's age was given as 37. Their children are Joseph Nelson (sometimes listed as Nelson Joseph or John Nelson), Christopher J., Jane L and another boy who died before 1895. Larson died in 1895 - his probate record is found at Smith County, KS 1898. J. Nelson was born in 1881, Married Jennie Marie Davis at Smith Center Kansas Aug 26, 1922 - 7 children were born of the marriage. The eldest was Christine, born 1922 or 1923. I have a note (which has not been varified) that Christine marrked a Jack or John Schulter (or Schluter). Looking forward to hearing from any Rask cousins!

I am interested in exploring possible relationship. My Maternal Great Grandfather was Lars (Larson)Rask, immigrated to the U.S. late 1870's -, married Mary E. Atwood 1880 in Smith Center Kansas. Lars and Mary had 3 surviving children: J. Nelson, Christopher and Jane. J. Nelson Rask was the father of my mother. I understand from Annie Christman that Lars Rask left a wife and several children in Denmark when he immigrated to Kansas USA in the 1870's. I have transcripts of US Census Records (1880), Marriage record for Lars Rask and Mary Atwood (also 1880), death record for Lars Rask (1895) and some other info/documents. Interested in futher private correspondence. Please contact me at e-mail: s-sowell@earthlink.net.
