Surnames: Rappold, Rapole, Rappolt, Och
Thought I would post some things that I have found in my research.
Ancestor Susan Rappold is married to George Och. We know that. It is said that they were married in 1768 in Holland before immigrating to America. I haven't been able to find any ship passenger lists with them. Where is the proof that states that they lived in Holland and were married there.
From Rev. War Records, George Och and George Rapole were taken prisoners in the spring of 1778 into Canada and were there for two years. At this time I believe they were brother-in-laws and possibly taken prisoner at the same time.
George Rapole was married twice. First to Elizabeth Failing. Second to Margaret Helligas July 1793 at the home of the brother of Elizabeth Failing, the first wife.. To Margaret they had two children, Elizabeth born in 1794 and John
. According to the pension records for George Rapole they lived at a place called the Bush farm in Montgomery Co, NY. George Weaver was a close friend of George Rapole and said he had been a boyhood friend and that they lived in Palatine, New York. They remained friends the rest of their lives. Weaver says that Rapole was a German but I wonder if the Rapole family had come early in the 1700s when many German Palatinates came to New York .
I am using the Rapole spelling because in the Rev. War records George's name is spelled as such. It is also spelled Rappold, Rappolt, Rapolle. as well as other variations.
I believe that George Rappole was a brother to Susan married to George Och. George Rappole was born about 1757. Age wise a contemporary . In 1820 census in Oneida Co, Ny they live just a few places apart. In 1796 George Rappold and wife Margaret are sponsors for a daughter of George Och Jr. and wife Elizabeth House Och who is baptized at St. Pauls Lutheran Church at Minden Shores, Montgomery Co, NY.
. George Rappold died in Jefferson Co, NY on March 25, 1841.
George Rapole stated that he was at the Battle of Oriskany in New York which would have been quite close to home. He enlisted for three years under Capt. Andrew Fink.
Some things to think about and if anyone has done any research on either the Och or Rappold family would appreciate hearing.
