G. M. Rainey was listed in 1850 US census as Gouverneur Ranney in Orange County, NY but all other times as Rainey. I've traced him from this census to his death but cannot locate the tie to his parents although I believe they could be John Colwell (Caldwell) and Margaret McElwell Rainey.
He married Cornelia Torry in 1853 and in the 1860 census, they had a son, John (b c 1859) listed. I don't find Cornelia or John at any other time. G.M. later married Frances Josephine Dean (from Delaware County) and they had four children.
