You mentioned a Stephen Raney as son of William Raney/Christian Willis. Do you have any proof of any children of this couple. By the way,this William died in Mecklenburg County, Virginia in 1797 not in Brunswick County in 1815. His will was probated in 1797 in Mecklenburg where he lived in the Marengo area. His home was located next to "Francis Rayney"who was actually Rainey and across from Francis Rainey's son Williamson. A Christian Rainey sold his land in 1796 that also was near William and Christian. I think you are getting the William Rainey who married Mary Morris,lived in Brunswick County mixed up with the other William. Would appreciate any help in this case.
