I'm very new at looking up my family background, since I have no living relatives to ask. Apparently, my Rackett family come to Orange NJ via Long Island. As a little boy (about 60 years ago)I remember my grandfather (John Walton Rackett) telling stories about the Racketts, saying we were a Mayflower family back to the Brewsters. My grandfather grew up in the Orient Point area of Long Island, and possibly had family in Sag Harbor, Greenport, and the surrounding area. I have tried looking him up on the Long Island Ancestry Site with no luck. He had a sister named Bess Rackett Feurstein, and two brothers, George (Teen) Rackett, and another brother whose name I do not know, but who had a son Edward Rackett of NJ. My grandfather married Olive Francis? Osborn of, I assume Long Island, who had a sister Violet Osborn Luke, a brother Bill Osborn, and a brother who became Mayor of Aleriya??, Ohio in the 50's. I was also told that we were related to Richard Smythe of Smithtown fame.(That's no Bull). I have been trying to look up info on the internet with many dead-ends. My grandmother Olive Rackett was a member of the DAR in NJ and I was told that her relative of Revolutionary an Civil war fame was Gen. Winfield Scott. Another name within the family, that I recall, was Tuthill (Tuttle?),also from Long Island. If any Racketts or other interested parties can provide more Info, I would be grateful. GH Rackett, JR.
