Am interested to know history of Rañola surname from the Philippines.

My maternal grandmother was Amparo Pena Ranola, married to a Julian Acabado, had five children, the oldest happens to be my mother. I believe the Ranola Family were from Guinobatan, Albay, Philippines. I have some relatives but haven't have family reunions so I've lost tract of them. I know I have relatives who migrated to California and maybe I'll be interested to contact them.

I believe the Rañola's originally come from Oas Albay. As told to us in stories by the older ones, during the Spanish times all residents living in Oas were given surnames beginning in R - Rañola, etc. The other towns like Guinobatan were given surnames beginning in O, like Oropesa. Three brothers were given the surname Rañola. One migrated to Cebu, another migrated to Quezon Province and the third stayed on. Eventually, many migrated to other towns like Guinobatan which is the next town, Libon as well as in other provinces including Naga where I come from. We have met some Rañola's from Quezon and they also have heard of the same story which means there is some factual truth to the matter. We occasionally meet Rañola's from other towns in Albay like Libon and they invariably recognize us as their cousins because they know that they too trace their lineage from Oas. My grandfather came from Oas. A nephew of his became a Congressman probably in the '50s and a school called Marcial Rañola Memorial School has been named in his honor in Guinobatan. His sister, who was the principal fof that school for a long time would always visit us during the Peñafrancia fiesta in Naga when she was alive.
It's nice to know we have relatives too in America. I hope you could enjoin the others to join in as well. If we could not have an actual reunion, an online reunion would not be so bad. regards

My mother is a Rañola from Lucban, Quezon. My mom has no recollection of my grandfather's ascendants. He was beheaded by the Japanese Imperial Army during WWII for supporting the guerilla movement when my mom was only 11 years old. The only thing she knows, because of diplomas she still keeps, is that he studied in Letran and then UST where he earned a degree in Pharmacy. Their family used to have a Pharmacy in Sampaloc and Lucban, Tayabas Province (now Quezon) before WWII. My grandfather also worked for the US Government during the American period.

My late father told us that original three Rañola brothers came from Oas Albay. One migrated to Cebu, another to Quezon and the third stayed in Oas. My grandfather came from Oas but married and stayed in Naga. Many of my cousins are still in Naga. However, based on the visit of my sister in Oas just a month ago, it seems only a few Rañola's are still in Oas. Most like us may have already migrated to other places. We have met a few Rañola's of Lukban and they also say that they know they have cousins in Bikol. Very nice to hear from you.

Hi, my father is Renato Ranola, he is 1 out of children from Salvador and Carmen Ranola. My great grandfather's name is Tomas Pacifica Ranola and he father is Don Juan Ranola of lucban, quezon. The Ranola house is still in lucban, which houses the santo senior sepculcro. There actually is a detailed family tree at the lucban house. From reading the replies... It looks like don juan Ranola must be the brother that moved to lucban. It's quite interesting to read and be able to trace our history

My mom is a Ranola. Her name is Josefa Samson Ranola. Her father's name is Faustino Ostonal Ranola, the brother of the late Cong. Marcial Ostonal Ranola in whose name the school Marcial O. Ranola Memorial School (MORMS) is named after.
It is a nice surprise that I bumped into this thread while searching for the Ranola Clan. I studied in Guinobatan East Central School from grade five to six and finished my high school in MORMS. Sadly though, I have very vague knowledge of my ancestry. The only Ranola I know are the immediate family of my grandfather Faustino. My mother's brother lives in San Juan City, Philippines, Atty. Vicente Samson Ranola and her sister Rachel Samson Ranola-Villavicencio lives in Camalig, Albay.
Another sister of my mom, Teresita Samson-Reverente (deceased) married an "Oasnun" (mestizo guy from Oas). She had twin daughters living in Guinobatan, Albay. A son, Apollo Ranola Reverente who migrated in Canada and another who lives in Soldiers Hill IV, Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, Jose Ranola Reverente.
My grandfather Faustino had a sister, "Unding" Ostonal Ranola who had a son by the name of Atty. Horatio Ostonal Ranola (deceased) who migrated in the US with his wife Dra. Baby Halili-Ranola.
Another sister, Meding Ostonal Ranola (deceased) was married to a Paglinawan. They had three children, Bernardita Ranola Paglinawan, a retired nurse residing in Belgium. Atty. Donardo Ranola Paglinawan and Brenda Ranola Paglinawan, who is a teacher.
He had two brothers, Ramon Ostonal Ranola (deceased), who married the late Estelita Olaguer-Ranola, the principal in MORMS in the late '70s and early '80s. And the late Cong. Marcial O. Ranola, who I mentioned earlier. Both had no children.
I on the other hand married a "Lucbanin". My husband and I have a small place in May-it, Lucban. It would be very nice if I could meet the Ranola of Lucban. Maybe this venue is created that we may be able to fill in the gaps of our roots. It could be a far off idea to complete all the links, but it is certainly nice to know that there are many surviving Ranola and we are spread out far and wide.
Now, I have a reason to believe that God found a good thing with our ancestors to allow our generation to move far and wide. If physical reunion be impossible, a place like this is certainly welcome for me.
Arise, Ranola and let your light shine!
