i know the messages here have been posted years ago and its now 2006..but i've read the messages and would like to know if any of those people with the 'quach' surname are still posting messages around.. i would simply like to get in contact with you thats all..there seems to be a trend in the 'quach' family that there is a combination of both vietnamese and chinese heritage...i just wanted to know where the roots of our surname derive from..i've been searching around on the net and by chance there's this site a UK site believe it or not..very far from where i come from with people whom have the same surname as me..and share the same curiosity as i do. i am from the land of down under and as far as i know there's not many quach's in this state within australia that i live in..

Quach is the Romanized spelling of the Chinese last name in Vietnamese. The Romanized spelling in mandarin is Kuo, in Cantonese is Kwok. There are 2 different ways to write our last name in Chinese - not possible to paste here.

In my search, to-date, my family line came from the DOAN TRAI CONG line. The Quach's clans from DOAN TRAI CONG were found in 4 villages in China:
a) Bach Thuy Duong
b) Dong Bat Vu
c) Truc Kieu
d) Nam Duong - (this is where my ancestor's village is)

Each Quach generation is named with the following middle name, in order to keep track of what generation we belong to in the following sequence:
1) DOAN
2) NGUON
3) (Nhut Nhi The To) ???
4) HAN
5) TRIEU
6) NHUOC
7) DIEU
8) SI
9) DUY
10) VAN
11) DINH
12) THE
etc....

I am the 25th generation of the Quach from Nam Duong. My grandparents, like many of the other Quach migrated to Vietnam from Nam Duong back in the late 1800. I was born in Vietnam and thus took on the Vietnamese version of the last name.

Please let me know if anyone has any additional info, comments and or notice any errors in any of the above.

Some of these info were passed downed by my parents, aunts and uncles over the years. A few years back, one of my uncles went back to China and got a chart - Giai Thu Ho Quach - which confirmed most of what was passed on to us, plus few more details.

There are still lots of older people from my parents' villages, who we can ask. If you know where about in Vietnam or China your family/ies used to live in, I would start asking these elders. These days, they are scattered around in places like LA, San Jose, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto and obviously in China.

My cousins recently ran into people who previously went to school with my father and uncle, back in China, for instant, and they were able to tell us some details about the older generations and others who knew my families. We just have to filter through some of the myths/legends and find the facts.

Good luck with your search. If you do come across anything that you can share, please let me know.
