Jozef Anna had 4 sons that came to the U.S. around 1900. They were Maciej (Matthew), Jan (John), Wawrzyniec (Lawrence), and Szymon. The brothers were born 1875 to 1885 in Smegorzow, Dambrowa, Poland.

Bonjour,

Gregory, bonjour. Pardonez moi, mon francaise est mediocre.

I saw your posting on the Board. Over the centuries, the Pyzyk surname drifts across the Polish and Ukrainian borders. There are a number of Pyzyk's who conside their roots to be in Ukraine. I have relatives in both.

Please Google the word 'Vapenne' and you will see that the Pyzyk family is included in an 18 C. Austrian census. This is the Lemko region, presently in Poland since World War II but it is or was a Ukrainian-speaking region. It is spelled differently depending on the interpretation of the dominant language of any country so you will see Pyzyk (Polish), Pyzhyk (transliteration; writing in English how it sounds in Ukrainian), Pyzik, etc.

Some of the older Pyzyks considered themselves to be Austrians as they were raised under the Austro-Hungarian empire (pre-modern Poland) therefore Pyzyks seem to adapt to whatever times they exist in, an adaptable people!

Hope this helps.
