This is a name in my family. Not yet sure where from in Poland. Know of Ludwik and Mary in this country, and they were Catholic, in the area of Chicago. Any info appreciated.

You can find more Pytel, Pytlanka etc. than you need in the church records of Parkowo, Poland from on 1695, also in the Oborniki area.

I know your posting is old, but I was just browsing and saw it. Try spelling the name Petlewski- and do a search in google.com. Use quotation marks before and after the name. There is a lot of historical information. Most of the time the name is spelled Petlewski- but was orginally Pytlewski. There were three brothers that came to Michigan in the 1860's- name Stanislaus, John Joseph, and Joseph. They were all born in Posen Poland.

I've been researching a small village outside Tarnow, Poland called Zukowice Stare. There are many Pytel's in this village. In my research I am certain Catholic Pytel's came to the Chicago area as well as Platte County Nebraska. For general information on Poles in Chicago go to www.pgsa.org. (Polish Genealogical Society of America) There are some good free searchable databases on the Chicago area (Marriage & Death Records from the Polish Newspaper in Chicago dating back to the 1800's).

Hi Cathy -- I see we are both working with the same resource. Great site to find clues. I will be happy to share my info with you if I find out anything. I have just started on the Pytel side since I have come to a halt with my family surnames. You mother lend me some excellent photos which I scanned and I am planning to post in efforts to gather more family data overseas in Poland.

There was a Frank (Franz) Pytel who was born about 1859 who came over from Dobczyce, Poland with my great grandmother, Anna Drozdowicz and her two sons, Joseph (my grandfather) and Frank. Anna and her sons were going to join her husband, Jan Drozdowicz, in Chicago. The family were Catholic.

From the looks of it, Franz Pytel was 48 at the time and he was going to see his brother in law in Chicago. It almost looks like the brother in law was my great grandfather, Jan Drozdowicz, which could, in fact, make Frank (Franz) Pytel my great uncle.

If you have found out any more information about the Pytels in Chicago, please let me know. I am now wondering if that could be my great grandmother's maiden name.

Thanks! (Anyone with Pytel info. who knows Frank Pytel or knows if there was a Drozdowicz in the family, please respond!)

My Grandmother, born in 1888, Mary Pytlewska, (shortened to Pytel) lived in Chicago. She was from Poland. She married my grandfather in 1913 in Cicero, Ill. His name on the marriage certificate is Hyacinth Stoszel, changed to Jesse Lewis Stossel. They named their sons, Stan & Joseph, maybe family names? Both sides of the family's history was kept a mystery. I am just begining to research this side of my family, any information would be greatly appreciated.
