My grandfather William Pyritz (1871-1906) and step-grandfather August Pyritz (1869-1926) were both (a) born in Germany, (b) immigrated to Chicago IL, (c) raised families in Indianapolis IN. Seeking any further information on their German ancestors.

My husbands grandfather was a William Pyritz but he passed in the 1970's. Maybe a son of your grandfather? He lived on the south side of Chicago and later moved to Valpariso Indiana, where he lived until he died. I'll ask my father in law about his grandparents.
Who knows?

Donna - Yes, I'd be interested in trying to trace possible kinship with your husband's grandfather, William Pyritz (d. 1970s). (I delayed response until I could compare memories with my brother, Robert C. Pyritz.) My specific background:
My father, Robert W. Pyritz (1903-1982) was a son of William Pyritz (b. 1871 in Germany, m. 1899 in Chicago to Louise Schwemm). They moved to Indianapolis c. 1904. William d. 1906. His widow remarried in 1912 to her brother-in-law August Pyritz (1869-1926), who was by then a widower (first wife Anna Fuhrman) also living in Indpls.
We recall that our father mentioned a first cousin (now deceased) named Ted Pyritz in Indpls. We're fairly certain that Ted was not a son of August (and, of course, not of William), and that therefore August and William must have had another brother.
We also know that August and William (and Louise Schwemm) were from the south side of Chicago. We're not certain whether A. W. came to America as children with their parents or in the 1890s on their own. So far we have found no record of either their parentage or immigration.
As you see, we have very little pre-1900 data on the Pyritz side of our family. Any help would be very welcome!

Hello Dee,
My Name is David Carlton Pyritz. I have just started tracking my family. My Grandfather's name was Walter Joseph Pyritz b. 1903 d. 1970. My grandmother is still alive. I'll try and find some info from her. I have a copy of my G. Grandfathers Naturalization Papers dated 19 Dec 1903 his name was Charles Pyritz. He settled in Pensacola, Florida. I don't know much more at this time. Sorry, I just started, but wanted to make contact.

David - Welcome to the search! My husband has some of his ancestry back 50 generations, but it's two generations only so far for our Pyritzes.
My brother, Bob Pyritz, had found an "all-purpose" Pyritz history that mentioned quite a few in Florida, but we're not aware of any connection. But we do suspect our grandfather, William Pyritz, and step-grandfather (his brother) August had at least one other brother, maybe more. Your great-grandfather Charles sounds about the right age. (August got his US citizenship at Indianapolis September 1896.) William August were both born in northeastern Germany (not far from the old town of Pyritz and the city of Stettin) about 1867-71.
(The border shift after WWII put Pyritz just inside Poland; it's now Pyrzyce.)
So...we might be related, but probably several generations back in Prussia/Poland. Let me know if you find any connection - Thanks!

I don't know if he is related, but while searching a local cemetary for my husbands side, I came across a Carl and Hannah Pyritz here in Chicago Illinois.
Carl passed November 14,1919 a
Hannah passed March 1,1905 ( age 70)
My father-in-law does not know of these people so they may be related to your side.
Good luck! Let me know. I have photo of headstone from Bethania Lutheran Cemetary in Justice Illinois.

Pyritzes in Chicago, 1880s or 90s

From the dates, it sounds as if Carl Pyritz would be one generation previous to my grandfather William Pyritz) and granduncle/step-grandfather (August Pyritz). August (born 1869) and William (born 1871) emigrated from the Stetttin-Pyritz neighborhood of eastern Germany (now Poland) to the south side of Chicago - we don't know when, but presumably 1880s or 90s.
We don't know what other family may have come with them or been there before them, but there had to be at least one other brother whose son Ted Pyritz was my father's first cousin and, like my father, lived most of his life in Indianapolis.

Hello Dee,
I recently located my husbands great-grandfather, John Pyritz, at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park Illinois. Next to him is an unknown relative, possibly his brother, by the name of William Pyritz. The office told me that he died in Indianapolis IN at the age of 35, on December 31,1906. Is there any possibility this is your grandfather? We didn't think we had a link to the Indianapolis area until I found this out and I remembered seeing some postings for PYRITZ's in Indianapolis. I am assuming this William is a brother to John because John purchased 5 lots when his wife died in 1903. If he's not your grandfather, do you have any other link that would match?
Date of Birth- 11/22/1871
Date of Death- 12/31/1906

I have no other info at this time, but photo's of his headstone can be sent....

sorry, i sent you a reply and now i read your second posting. It does indeed look like we are related!
I will go back to the cemetery with my digital camera to take a photo of your grandfathers resting place.
His brother John was my husbands greatgrandfather.

I can't wait to tell Jim's Aunt about this find. We too haven't found any immigration information, but i am hoping to get to the Cook County Records department this summer to get some additional information.
