Utah Pyrahs

Classification: Biography
One of my ancesters Jonathon Pyrah and his wife Mary Ann Sykes migrated to Utah in the 1880s. I presume to be with other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Many generations later my family and I are also members of the same church and are really hoping to find the 'story' of our pioneer ancestors. Can anyone help.

Are you still looking for information about Jonathon Pyrah? He is my GG Grandfather through his daughter Julia Ann who married William Dexter Robinson (he was also a Mormon Pioneer - his uncle died at Martin's Cove!) Please e-mail me if you want more information. I'm pretty sure my dad has the ships they came on and other information about the Pyrahs. Our record goes back to Thomas Benjamin Pyrah, 1770, Yorkshire England. I'd love to find more further back.

Thank you so much for replying. The short answer is 'yes' I would love to have more information on the Pyrahs. I did find a huge amount of information regarding the Pyrahs from Ila Pyrah in the USA who directed me to David Pyrah here in England. David has done the Pyrahs back to 1600!!. He has given me a vast list, which is just wonderful. Ila has given me a picture of Jonathan and his wife, plus a copy of some journal entries he made while crossing the Ocean on his way to Utah. Sadly it is only a few pages as the rest has been lost, but I treasure what I have and if you have any more information I would find it an honour to be able to read it.

My direct decendent was Jonathan's, father's (Thomas 1796) brother Thomas 1621 (Jonathan's uncle) and I gather from reading the Journal entry that Jonathan was sad and frustrated that he could not get his family to go to Utah with him, but was resigned to the fact that he had tried his best.

I am happy to share whatever information I have with you and would be delighted to view anything you would care to share. My email address is rmsjanet@aol.com.

Many thanks again.

Janet Richardson.

What would you like to know? My mother was born Pyrah but there are not many left on her line now. There is a gentleman in a town near me who has a huge list of Pyrahs - if you dont already have his info. He lives in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, I can give you all his info.
A couple of years ago my husband and I went to Belgium to the British war graves cemetery to 'honour' my great uncle John Pyrah who was killed at Ypres, Belgium in 1917, that was a life changing experience. Let me know how I can help further.

That must have been amazing to visit the battlefield. I have seen pictures of the tower of London's poppy memorial and think I will try to order one in memory of my English relatives who fought and died in WW I.
