Surnames: PYPER
The name PYPER has various spelling and origins. Briefly the spelling of the last name usually indicates the origin. PYPER is spelt as follows in the various countries of the world.

PIPER - Indicates an English origin. There is a family crest dating back 500yrs in a cathedral in Sussex, England.
PEYPER - Though to be of Scottish origin
PIJPER - Dutch origin.
PYPER - Irish origin. Sometimes spelt PHYPER.
PYPER - In South Africa the Dutch PIJPER has changed to PYPER, as the language Afrikaans ( a form Dutch dialect) has connected the I & J to make it a Y.
PHEIFFER - German origin.

It is interesting to note that in virtually all the languages it means"the person who plays the Pipes/Flute, pointing to being of family of musicians.

I hope this gives some indication of the origin.

Hello! I do hope that you have found your Pyper family. I know that my father in law came from Netherlands. His children all where born in the states. My mother in law also came from the Netherlands I believe she said it was Groningen, Netherlands. My husband's last name was spelled Pyper and his father is Pijper. When my husband's parents came to America they changed it.I know it is very hard to find where the Pyper name came from and I wish you all the luck in the world.
