My line of Pyper's are from the Aberdeen and Kincardine area of Scotland, dating all the way back to the mid 1700s so far, and always spelled Pyper...so it's interesting to hear that that spelling is of Irish origin.

Debra, My PYPER family all came from Scotland (Aberdeen)
my great grandfather changed the spelling of this surname to PIPER when he went to Australia The rest of the family back in Scotland retain the PYPER spelling & have been traced back to the 1700's

This really is a late reply, but my surname is Pyper, and we have roots down Ireland but the majority moved through to Scotland and Northern Ireland. You could try there?

My maiden name was Pyper and my father and grandfather were from Edinburgh, Scotland.
