Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Your note about Gordon Pyper coming from Kandy struck my interest. My GGF was a Gordon Pyper and lived at Hantane, Ceylon. My GM, Ailie Margaret Pyper (b. 1893), was the third eldest child of his second litter with Alice Okeden. I am not at all sure our dates tally but do come back to me via ianhcatmoon@hotmail.comYours, Ian

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Your dates do not really tie up with mine but I am loath to say there not a connection as I cannot believe there was another Pyper family in the area!!
My GGF, Gordon Pyper, DIED in 1916! His son Gordon was born in 1879 /80 but not in Scotland as far as I know - in Kandy - as were most if not all Gordon Snr.'s children.
Gordon Snr.'s father was John but did come from the Aberdeen area - we think Peterhead.
I have pics. of all three generations - do you? perhaps a swop might help ids.?
Yours,
Ian

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
I think George Pyper Sr. is my great-great grandfather (the birth date matches and he was from Aberdeen), and my grandfather is Alexander Gordon Pyper, born 1925 and I'm guessing the younger brother of your father?
I'd be interested to hear any information you may have found about George Pyper Sr., from what I've been told he was orphaned at age 8? I've also hit a wall in my research about his wife, Catherine/Katherine Abel?

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Hello David, I am pretty sure you are my cousin. I remember your name. My mom is your fathers little sister Phyllis Pyper. Have you been incontact with anyone else?

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Jaclyn, I do believe that possibly Morgan McQuay may have further info. I know that in the past he was searching. It would be interesting to find out. I did not know that my Grandfather George Pyper was an orphaned.

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Hi Ian,
Peterhead is in Aberdeen, it is a parish there. So the family could well have originated there. I am trying to find Gordon Pyper's (married to Eliza Black and Alice Rachel Parry-Okeden)birth date.

Re: Pyper's from Scotland and Canada
Dear Ian,
I am interested to see our grandmothers were sisters. My grandmother Corralie Rachel Pyper's mother was also Alice Rachel Parry-Okeden and her father was Gordon Pyper. The story of Gordon going out to Ceylon in the 1880s and making his fortune in tea is fascinating and I have some lovely old photographs and postcards.
As Corralie was born in 1891 she was only 2 years older than your grandmother Ailie so I am sure they were very close. I remember she loved life in Ceylon and hated being shipped back to England aged 14 to school. She returned for a few years after WW1, after marrying my grandfather Norman Greathed Alexander, together with my father John Gordon Uvedale Okeden Alexander.
Best wishes Joanne
