Surnames: Pyper, Hastings, Caird
I am looking for info on a William Pyper born William Hastings circa 1794 at New Deer, Aberdeenshire Scotland.
Died 1st January 1880 in Feteresso parish a retired farmer.

He married a Mary Whyte in 1813 at New Deer as William Hastings.
He later married Mary Caird as William Pyper in Marykirk

His death certificate states his parents were - Hastings and Ms Pyper can anyone suggest why he changed his name or who his parents were.

I now believe that William Pyper is William Hastings/Hasten born/christened @ New Deer 12/9/1793. The census records for William Pyper state he was born @ New Deer.

I have no explanation for the name change, however if they are the same person his father is Joseph Hasten and his mother is Janet Pyper. They have a number of other children at least one of whom is named Hasten in the OPR's but in the later statutory registers is Hasting(s)

The data in the IGI which gives his parents as Pyper and Cruickshank is , in my opinon, incorrect.

Hi Alexander thanks for that.

I missed your post and have just found it. I too have dismissed the Alexander Pyper/cruickshank connection but was struggling to find williams birth etc.(many credits used up on SP).

I have a copy of William Pypers will/inventory if you are interested.
