Hi

My great great grandmother was Julia Augusta Pyne born abt. 1837 in Chelsea London England I believe.

She married Edward Colebrooke Miller on 12 Jul 1860 at St. George Hanover Square, Middlesex, England.
On her marriage certificate she gives her father as William Lionel Pyne Deceased profession Gentleman. Julia gave her residence as Upton Buckinghamshire (which may have been her place of birth instead of Chelsea although she gave her place of birth as London, Middlesex on Census records).

Somewhat confusingly there is a record in the IGI of a Julia Augusta Pyne the daughter of John Pyne and Mary Anne who was born on 2 Jun 1836 and baptised on 18 Oct 1838 at Saint Luke's Church, Chelsea, London, England, and also according to the IGI a John Rowland Lionel Pyne was born on 15 Dec 1837 and baptised on 18 Oct 1838 at Saint Luke, Chelsea, London, England son of John Pyne and Mary Anne.

According to the 1871 Census records Julia Agusta Pyne's brother William Rowland Pyne was born in Brighton, Sussex in 1838.

Census records give Julia Augusta Pyne's year of birth between 1837 and 1849.

The 1851 Census has her name mispelled
According to the 1851 Census living at a school at 64-67 Grand Parade, Brighton
Julia Pine (spelled Perie!) age 14 born abt. 1837 scholar Middlesex
Louisa Caldwell age 11 born abt. 1840 scholar Middlesex (half sister of Julia I believe).

Julia's mother was Marianne Pyne (surname same as her husband William Lionel Pyne). Marianne Pyne according to Census records was born between 1814 to 1818 in Dublin Ireland.
Following the death of William Lionel Pyne Marianne married George Caldwell born abt. 1807 Hillborough, Norfolk. I believe that Marianne married George in 1843 in an Anglican church (Church of Ireland) possibly in Dublin.
It is possible that both Marriane Pyne and her first husband William Lionel Pyne were both born in Ireland.

I and other relatives would very much like to find some confirmation of the birth, marriage (to Mariane Pyne) and death of William Lionmel Pyne and also whether his christian name was William or John!!!

any help would be gratefully appreciated.

regards

Richard

Hi
Am famliar with the difficlty of pinning down this group. Richard like me may have seen and taken part in the extensive exchanges on Rootschat message boards.
There seem to be three realted families, with no direct connection t either of the landed Pyne families from East Down or their Irish cousins descened from Sir Richard Pyne.

The three groups include the families from Marianne mentioned before and husband William Lionel Pyne. Among their children were the Julia Augusta mentioned previosuly and William Rowland, solicitor general of Tobago and buried in Trinidad.
Secondly the faml of Cap Charles Horace or Horatio Pyne and wife Eliza.
Thirdly the family of Lieutenant George Pyne and wife Mary Dixon.
It seems v odd that apparently well to do families cannot be clearly traced back to earlier generations . Suggest it is worth trawling through the other mesage board exchanges around these to see if you can find any possible new leads .
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

thanks for your reply I did indeed see the Rootschat discussions regarding these families. I guess I was hoping for a new lead in resolving the mystery of the roots of these families.

What do you make of the baptisms of Julia Augusta Pyne and John Rowland Lionel Pyne on the same day in Chelsea to John Pyne and his Wife Mary Ann. These seem so close as to be correct despite the abscence of the name William in the father and son!!

Regards

Richard

I found this story about James Pyne is it your James Pyne too. James b 1824 canada married to Isabella Cravin Pyne canada
JAMES PYNE was born in New Brunswick in 1823, and was married to Isabella Craven, of that place in 1850, and came to Alcona County in 1870. He first worked for Ives, Green & Co., at lumbering for two years, and bought eighty acres in Section 28, of Alcona Township, a part of which he cleared and commenced farming. He has a family of eight children, five boys and three girls, who are living in the township. Mr. Pyne jobbed at lumbering successfully for several seasons for E.R. Haynes & Co., of Alcona Township. Subsequently he has lumbered for Alger, Smith & Co. at Black River, and has recently finished a large dwelling house on his farm, but did not live to enjoy the fruits of his hard labor, for on the 10th day of May, 1883, he died suddenly of disease of the heart, and was buried in Harrisville cemetery. He was a kind neighbor, a firm friend and an honest man. The large concourse of neighbors who attended the funeral attested to the respect in which he was held by the community where he had so long lived. I am just starting to look at my family history.

I am from Alpheus Pyne (b. July 2, 1863) and Julia Knowlton (b. August 4, 1865?) Leeds County, Ontario
Who had children:
Disraeli Alpheus (b. May 24, 1890)
Wesley Whitfield
Alma Julia
Harriet (Hattie) Letitia
Herman Baxter
Fletcher Bramwell
Betty/Lucy (Mary Elizabeth)

My grandparents are Disraeli Alpheus Pyne and Mary Edna Glackin who had children:
Ruth Knowlton
Harland McGillivrary
Bruce Campbell
William Desmond Pyne (my father)
Joyce Christina

We may be related. I was told I have Scottish background too but maybe that is the Glackin’s or McGillivrary’s?

I am a descendant of the Pynes family. William Pynes 1700-1755 who married Elizabeth Pyles and lived in the Isle of Wight, Va. His son William moved to Orangeburg, SC. I have seen on other trees that records show the Pynes came from Devon, England to Virginia in the late 1600's. I am stumped. I you have any info or know where I can find, would you let me know. Thanks.

Thank you for this summary of our history. Our travels from Spain to France to England and then some went to Ireland before heading to the U.S. from both islands at different dates.
My sister found the same information throughout the years and it affirmed this was what I was looking for.
I'm the daughter of Philip A. Pines, from Goshen, NY.
Other than a few cousins, whom I lost touch with, and my sisters, I'm the only Pines I know.
Is there more information I can find on my family? Details, relatives who are possibly still in Europe?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it.
