William,

I share with you the first three generations in your posting:

John Pyle - Susanna Chamberlain
Jacob Pyle - Jane Sharples(s)
Caleb Pyle - Mary Matthewson
John Pyle - Ann Lodge
John David - Hannah Marie Pyle

I think I have inherited the "Pyle backside."

My mother was Margaret Copple Pyle, my grandfather wasGrover Cleveland Pyle and my g-grandfather was Alfred Darlington Pyle. All but my mother were born on Concord Twsp., Brandywine, Thornton PA area. I grew up in this area and know it well. Have several Xeroxes of old land survey maps that show the many Pyle family land holdings of Robert Pyle and his brother Nicholas. Since the 1950's my "older" cousin Tommy did family research on our Pyle ancestors here in S.E. PA. I grew up on stories like the sore back and rear end I got from long car trips was hereditary and my Mom called it the "Pyle backside." My ancestor, Caleb Pyle was excommunicated from the Society of Friends because he lent aid (a horse) to a fellow Quaker in his efforts to marry outside of his faith. Caleb went on and fought in the Revolution in Capt. Gryst's 5th Co., 8th Battalion of the Chester County Militia. Jacob, his father also served and is listed in the DAR index. I've walked the areas these people walked. Am looking for others of this line.
John Pyle - Susanna Chamberlain
Jacob Pyle - Jane Sharples(s)
Caleb Pyle - Mary Matthewson
Stephen Pyle - Lydia Reece
Eli Pyle - Rachel Esworthy
Alfred Darlington Pyle - Rebecca H. Grubb
Alfred Darlington Pyle II - Clara J. Milhous
I also have a lot of personal concerns with the accuracy of the Pyle Book that was published by Howard and Jane? Pyle

Surnames: Esworthy, Pyle
I am a direct descendant of Rachel Esworthy who married Eli Pyle. I take the Esworthy name back to her father and grandfather and I have some theories on further back than that. I also just returned from Devon England where there is a hamlet called lower Essworthy. I think there was originally an Esworthy family who settled in PA and some moved to Lancaster and some moved to Frederick MD. I would love to verify this as the first names seem to repeat both in PA and MD.

I believe I am a descendant of Eli Pyle and Rachel Esworthy. Do you show them as having a son Nathan? Or is there a Walter Pyle born around 1856? If so I have information and descendants, as I am a descendant of Walter. I would love to be able to verify if I am following the correct line.

I am in desparate need of help! I am trying to locate the parents of Deborah Ann Pyle b. about 1818 in Pennsylvania. She married Joseph Brown 16 May 1833 in Pennsbury, Chester Co, Pennsylvania. Children - Elizabeth Brown b. Sep 1835, d. 27 Sep 1837; William Henry Brown b. 1840, d. 1840 during Civil War @ Hilton Head, SC; Lavina Brown b. Sep 1841;and Phoebe H. Brown b. 1855. Joseph was a stone mason. In 1860,
George Brown b. abt 1790 and Hannah Pyle b. abt 1817 were living with the Browns in Pocoposon, Chester Co, Pennsylvania. Any help that you mayhave to offer regarding any of these people would be greatly appriciated. I have hit a stone wall on both Joseph Brown and Deborah Ann Plye.

Nathan's father is Eli and Rachel. If you need anymore info please write me at stoopey@verizon.net. I responded so late because I have not checked this site in many years.

I am also a descendant of Eli Pyle and Rachel Esworthy on the Esworthy side. Yes, they had a son named Nathan, named after her father.

I see this was written a number of years ago, but hopefully someone will perhaps find some of this information helpfull. My line starts back with Jacob Pyle and Jane Sarpless. The line then goes to: Caleb Pyle and Mary Matthewson, Aaron Pyle and Sarah Parks, Reece Pyle and Isabella Brannon, who had children John B. (1842), Sarah (1844), George (18440 and Theodore (1849). He then married a much-younger Sarah Meredith, and they had Howard Chandler (my great grandfather), Ida L., Franklin A., Isabella, Sidney (female), Reece Jr. and Susan. If anyone is interested in more dates or info, or can share something with me, please feel free to do so. My email is krp1946@verizon.net

Kathy,

I saw your post and I too am descended from John Pyle and Jane Sharples. However, I descend through their son Jacob Jr. I am trying to find record of his b. and or d. as well as his wife Elizabeth Blair. I'm doing research for a supplemental DAR app. and it hasn't been easy with this lineage. If you can suggest anything, please let me know.

Thank you. MC
