Does anyone out there know the ethnic origin of the Pylant name? No one in our family seems to know. Most of us are in, or from Texas in recent years, maybe Missouri before that.
THANK YOU

Vickey,
I do know the origin of the Pylant name. We are from Ireland and heritage mixed in from Germany. Our name means scribe. At some point our ancestors were keepers of records or something of that nature. Somewhere along the line our Irish ancestors married into a German family and this is who we are today. The original spelling is probably something like Pylantz or Bylandt or Pilot or any number of variations. It was probably changed when our ancestors travelled here and was not sure how to spell it because they were probably illiterate or they had royal blood and had to change the spelling due to threat of English retaliation. (Although this is highly speculative.) My branch of the Pylant family lives in Atlanta. My grandfather has always lived in Georgia as far as I know. My brother and my cousin are the last Pylants in our line unless they have children. Email me and tell me about your family. My sister's email address is Anjinique@aol.com in case you wish to email her. Oh yes, my grandfather's name is Homer Frank Pylant, Sr. and my uncle's name is John Lawson Pylant who is now deceased. Lawson is a family name that goes back to Ireland and so is Homer. My Dad's name is Homer Frank Pylant,Jr. My sister talked to someone in Ireland named John Pylantz and his uncle's name was Lawson, so the spelling could have originally been Pylantz. I hope this helps you. Sincerely, Kerry Pylant.

I have just read your information on the Pylant family origin and wanted to contact you. My great-grandfather was Joseph Tyre Pylant, also of Atlanta. I would be interested to know if our Pylant ancestors were related?

Dear Vicky,

Unfortunately I do not know much about our name either. Your are right that alot of us are from or still live in Texas. My Grandfather, Ernest Pylant of Houston, TX., now deceased, was keeping a family tree. My Grandfather and Great Uncle, his brother, had done extensive research on our name and I will try to get back with you on any information I glean, as I am also trying to find out more about our heritage. The last time I seen the book, I was thriteen, I am now thrity-five. However, I do remember that we have a predominate German heritage and recall another spelling of our name as Pykant. I will call my aunt in Houston and find out who is keeping that book and e-mail you with any other info.

Are you related to Ronald Arthur Pylant born in Austin Texas? If so please email me at brianna221@cox.net (use your last name in the subject line). I am working on my best friend's family tree and would like to talk to you if you are a relative.
Thanks, Kim

Sorry, I really don't know. I'll ask some of my family members in Texas and get back with you.
