Anyone have Jewish Pykes?
I have Edward Pyke, or Eliazer Pyke, from England,
He came into Baltimore or Philadelphia in 1823,
married Rachel Peixotto, and then emigrated to Jamaica,
and subsequently Colon, Panama.

Once happened upon a gravestone marked "Flora Pyke Levine" in small Jewish cemetery on Joseph St. in New Orleans. A lot of those interred in the cemetery were from Alsace-Lorraine, I seem to remember, and had been born around the time of the Franco-Prussian War. All the best to you.

Rachel Peixotto was the daughter of Solomon Cohen Peixotto (Rev.?), and was born in 1814 in Curacao, Antilles Netherlands, Caribbean. One of her brothers, David E. Cohen Peixotto is a direct ancestor of mine. I've been trying to gain information about David's (m. Caroline Solomon from Chicago, ILL) decendants -- Julian, Solomon, Daniel, and Leah -- born in S.C. or MS. Do you have any of this information?

My Pike's were mostly Methodist and lived in Carbonear, Newfoundland. However, there were several Edward's and Eleazar's among them.

I have a Jewish Pyke family in London with a number of Eleazers, and a separate (but distant) Peixotto connection - please get in touch.

Hi Estelle,
I have a London line going back to the 1730s to
Ly(e)on Pyke the name changes from Pike then previously Snoek from Amsterdam, other names directly linked are Alexander,Levy,Joel,Cohen. The other names around the edges are Hollender,Cleugh,Harding,Peixotto,Schmidt and others.
My ancestral trip so far appears to take in USA,UK,Jamaica,Venuzuela,Dutch East Indies, Australia possibly Canada-at this moment.
I did not know of my Jewish ancestry until 3 months ago it been a steep learning curve. Hope you can contact me.

Hi Chris.

There is an online family tree at:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=:81242... that shows a Boaz Israel SNOEK, several of whose children have the surname PIKE. This tree appears to include Lipman Emanual Pike, of baseball fame: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lip_Pike

Perhaps this tree ties in with your family in some way.

- David.

Dear Chris,

That does indeed sound like my (actually my friend's) family - she is descended from a Lezer Pyke who had children in the 1780s and had a brother called Lion. My husband has (distant) Peixottos on his family tree, as well. Please get in touch.

Hi Chris and Estelle,

You are almost certainly related to each other (or your friend), and I am related to both of you. Please contact me directly.

The family David writes about may well be the same family as ours. However, Snoek is not that uncommon a Dutch name, so we would need more info about the family in Holland than I currently know to be able to determine this.
