Hi Ian,
I'm the same Haakon Chevalier, your fourth cousin, that you have been corresponding with since 2011.

Incidentally, do you have any new evidence of our Dutch ancestors? As of almost exactly 3 years ago, I sent you an email detailing how the connection of Moses Pike of London d 1792 with Mozes Levie Snoek b 1724 of Amsterdam is merely plausible, but far from proven, tempting as it is, and in spite of the fact that so many people show this in their trees. You mentioned the

These are the only 3 primary records I know of for this person or persons on the two sides of the Channel, and two other bits of evidence that help slightly. Do you (or anyone else) know of any others? Also, does anyone have access to either of the original records? It is conceivable that there are some additional details there.

from synagoguescribes.com:
1.
PIKE Moses
Reference BSGSBUR 004/32
Family Name PIKE
Forenames Moses
Hebrew Name Moses SHPITZ SHKOP
Event Burial
Date 1792 [6 Feb]
Occupation
Address Stone Ln. Gravel Ln.H.

2.
PIKE (MN) Elsy Moses
Reference BSGSBUR 017/136
Family Name PIKE (MN)
Forenames Elsy Moses
Hebrew Name Elkele
Event Burial
Date 1794 [2 Mar]
Occupation
Address Stoney Ln. Gravel Ln. Houndsditch
Father
Father’s Hebrew Name
Mother’s Family Name
Mother’s Forename
Mother’s Hebrew Name
Spouse PYKE Moses (Moses Shnook (?Snoek)
Notes ALS: GSB P018 1803 [Jul-Aug]

From dutchjewry.org:
3. Mozes Levie Snoek, birth 3 Jan 1724 Amsterdam, 'Circumcisions and Births in Amsterdam 1697-1811, by Jits v.Straten':
on 25 Teveth 5484 [10 Jan 1724] - circumcision of Moshe ben Leib Snoek; sandak: Feibel ben Yecheskel Cohen & spouse.

4.
One additional slight bit of evidence, if you can call it that, is that there does not to be any further record of Mozes Levie Snoek in the Dutch records, and this is the only such Mozes Snoek for whom this is the case. Of course, one can think of numerous reasons why there would be no further record of this person, but emigration could be one possibility.

5.
Moses Pike's son Lion/Leon had a Hebrew name Leib b. Moshe Snoek, as shown in his son Jonah's birth record in GSB P019. Mozes' father Levie Leendert Elieser-Leizer Snoek died 5 Jun 1756 Amsterdam, Muiderberg cemetery: on 7 Sivan 5516 - the old Leib ben Leizer Snoek. (see same 2 sites cited above) We don't know when Lion was born, but it is possible that he was named after his grandfather Levie/Leib..

Surnames: Pike Pyke Snoek
Hi Haakon,
I don't remember the email of three years ago. I do remember you well.
It may have been that Moses Snoek was trying to evade creditors by fleeing to London and hence changed his name to Pike. Why someone would make a direct translation to the name Pike is interesting in itself if they were not a Snoek.

I guess the only way is to check DNA but for the moment I will accept it. There are Snoeks in Israel.
best regards
