Re: Pye family history - William Charles Pye
Hi, Just tried to send you an email but your address has changed..... I have a Pescod database of British born Pescods (currently 3336 of them) and I have 6 children for George Pescod & Elizabeth Pye - James, Jane, Elizabeth, Emma, George & William Frederick. I do not have a spouse for Emma, though I have got a possible marriage date of 2Q 1889 in Islington. I would be extremely interested in any information which you have so that I can complete the entries for these people (I do have spouse for George & William).
My mother is a Durham Pescod and the database started as an attempt to see if there was a link between our family and early Pescods in Hampshire/Sussex (my aunt was convinced that we all came from one person way back then). I have easily convinced myself of no such link but completing the database has become the new project.
Do hope you will be able to help me, Regards, Amanda Peart

Re: Pye family history - William Charles Pye
Hello Amanda, I just read your message re PESCODs. I'm hoping that you can help me re the marriage of Elizabeth PYE and George PESCOD. The earlier poster said that they were married in 1844 in Hackney, but I have not been able to find this marriage in the GRO index. If you have this information I would be very grateful to receive it, hoping that it may help me track down my elusive Thomas Beal PYE, who MAY have been Elizabeth's brother.

Re: Pye family history - William Charles Pye
I have got the marriage in Hackney but in 2Q 1848. I don't know where I got that information from (presumably FreeBMD) but if you find out anymore, like the actual date or other info from the certificate then I would be very grateful to hear. Best of luck. Amanda

Re: Pye family history - William Charles Pye
I was just re-reading these messages as I am interested in Pescods. For George Pescod & Elizabeth Pye (who married in 2Q 1848 in Hackney), I have children James b1849, Jane b.c1849 and in 1871 Single, Artificial florist in Islington, Elizabeth b1851, married 4Q 1873, also an artificial florist in Islington in 1871, Emma b.c1857, possibly married 2Q 1889, and another artificial florist in Islington in 1871, George b.3Q 1859, married Ada Udy 4Q 1882 in Islington, by 1891 in Aylesbury as a Grinders Engineer/fitter and 1901 Chief engineer at a Printing Works. Lastly William Frederick b.c June 1870, married Anne Harrison 3Q 1892 in St.Pancras, 1901 is a Printing machine engineer/maker in Islington. I have no other information for James and I did not have Mary at all so if you have any other details about the family then I would be most interested.

Re: Pye family history - William Charles Pye
My elusive ancestor, Thomas Beal PYE, was also in the printing business - he was a compositor. And he was living in Islington in the latter part of the 19th century, so there are possible (though weak) links.
I have now ordered a copy of the PESCOD/PYE marriage certificate. You are quite right, it is on FreeBMD. I'd missed it because having read that the marriage was in 1844, I'd searched from 1843 to 1847.
When I receive the certificate, probably not until after Christmas, I'll get in touch again. Thanks for your help.

The marriage cert has now arrived. I've emailed Amanda Peart directly.

You ask about Pyes who were tobacconists. Arthur John Pye started out as a vellum binder but his last recorded job was as a tobacconist. He is my great grandfather and lived in Limehouse and East end of London - they don't seem to be related to the Scottish Pyes

Thanks for that info, RAPG33. Since I wrote that post back in 2001, I have found the parents of Robert Pye, in Fife, and they don't seem to have any connection with London. I still don't know why Robert was in London for a couple of years around 1830, when two of his kids were born there. All the later & earlier kids were born in Edinburgh.
