Found your message on the Pybus Board. I am also a decendant of the Pybus of Ilton. Ilton is not a big place my investigations have taken me there. Maybe we are related. If you are interested and you are still on line please get in touch and we can see if we are related.

Anne,

Thanks for your mail. As you say ilton is a very small village (if it can even be called a village)
Therefore there can be little doubt that we do indeed share some common ancestor. The information i have relates to a John Pybus, Schoolmaster. of Brockriddings school (now a garage) this was in the 1780's . does this tie in with your investigations

Regards

Graham Tate

My grandmother was Julia Pybus, from probably Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK - don't know her parents names, but she married a SANDERS, and they had 7 children, Tom, William, James, Horace, Ethel, Beatrice and Bertha. My father (TOM) was born in Sheffield England, 1878 and married my mother, Euna Mary Royston and immigrated to New Zealand around 1900. I was born here in Auckland in 1916.

Hi
The PYBUS records I have are from North Yorkshire (Well and Snape) and are unlikely to have detail of your interest.
Having checked the 1881 census I see that George PYBUS was born in Beal which is 40-50 miles south.
Census detail:
Birth Year <1826>
Birthplace Beal, York, England
Age 55
Occupation Rail Station Master
Dwelling Station House
Census Place Hensall, York, England

My wife Rita is a descendant of the PYBUS family of
Well, nr Crakehall & Bedale, in N.R. of Yorkshire.
Researching the 1901 Census I found Mary A. Pybus (W),
(born 1832), daughter Jane (b.1867), son John (b.1868),
son Frederick (b.1870) and son Alfred (b.1873).
