Re: The Pyburns of County Cork
Hi Den & Betty, Thanks for reply, we live in Devon, England. Have been doing family history for some years now but have not been able to return to Ireland since 1989. My husband being 83 this year is not in good health. My sister -in-law lives near Skibbereen. Perhaps you could contact me by e-mail. Regards Mary.

Hi,
I just received my great grandfathers marriage certificate from the Irish Registry and it says that he was living in Cashelane. Can you give me any details (which townland) it's located in. All my research has turned up nothing except a farm in western cork called Cashelane Farms. Where next to schull is it located, is it a village or a town? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Dan, in reply to your query re. Cashelane farm, this farm is approx. 4miles from Schull. there are also several cottages nearby , this area has now all been redevoloped into holiday homes. My late husband grew up at Cashelane farm so could be a relation of yours. Would be interested to know who your gt/grandfather was. I hope you will get in touch with me. regards Mary.

Hi Mary,
My great grandfather was Jeremiah Minihane and he took Ellen Cassidy for his wife in 1870. According to their marriage certificate, they both lived in Cashelane. So from your note, you think he lived on that farm? What townland is it in?
Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it.

Hello Dan, No I dont think they would have lived in cashelane farm that was farmed by my husbands family but there were several cottages around which would have come under the same name. I,m sure I remember my husband mentioning the name Minahan when he used to recall people who used to live nearby If you could get hold of the 1901 census it should help you.. The townland would be Durrus. Cashelane is very close to Dunmanus Bay. Also about 8miles from Skibbereen. Hope this has been of some help to you. Regards Mary.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for the information. My great grandfather lived in Ratooragh (which is in Dunmanus Electoral Division) in 1901 and 1911 according to the census. I've been to his home and it is very close to Dunmanus Bay, so it all seems to fit. Do you know where the name Cashelane comes from? Thanks

Hello Dan, sorry I do not know where the name Cashelane comes from, in the old days it was spelt Cashelfean. regards Mary.

Re: The Pyburns of County Cork
I've just started to invtigate the Family Tree of my Father-In-Law (Derek Cronin), now living in Bath. His Father was Denis Cronin born 1910 in Durrus, moved to Southampton, got married to Florence O'Driscoll. Derek is related to Pyburns in some way. We believe a Sister/Aunt of Florence O'Driscoll married a Pyburn. Other Name related to them is Pepperell. One of our relatives is a Draper living in Bath area. We have a Driving License for John Pyburn, born 06/09/1926, Crookhaven. Also some Photos of an Eddie & Kathleen (we think Pyburn) from 1969.
Any help in linking these Families would be appreciated.
