Pyeatte-Pyeatt-Pyat-Piat-Piatt-Pyat-Peat and Peay
I have a booklet of historical notes that were compiled by Kenneth Pyeatt. It states that the name pyeatte is spelled many different ways and that they are all prob. related. In my families history we have a John Piat that left France for religious reasons(He was Huguenot) and He went into Holland. According to records he came to America with his family in 1640. As far as we have foun he was the first piat in America. his son Rene married Elizabeth Sheffield of Flushing Ca and had three sons Thomas, Jacob James and a daughter Joan who married the Rev. Johnathan Dunham of Puscatoway New Jersey. It also says that the families of the various names of pyeate's are descendants of these three brothers.
