Hello,

I am looking for my relatives who maybe live now in the U.S.A
My Grandfather Giovanni Puz who was married to Ida Puz had a brother named Ivan Puz who left during the war with a woman to the USA and was since then never seen again.

Family members belive that he arrived in New York but are not sure.
It is possible that Ivan Puz changed his name....
His brother (my grandfather) moved to South Tyrol during the war times.

I'm looking forward for every information you can give me.

Many thanks,

D.Puz

per the ellis island records for 'ivan puz'

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipManifest.asp?MID=08843...

this man ended up in bessemer, pa--i will do further research, but it gave me a chill when i saw the name, looked almost like it could say 'frank'-thats the name of my great grandfather, who purportedly left during war times with a woman to the USA..

yeah--due to record keeping in those days, theres only speculation, and what our older relatives decide to tell us:)
hope you find the info youre looking for, good luck!

i just thought the stories sounded similar--but it could be a story for just about any immigrant family really.

our puz family moved to western pa from croatia in the early 1900s.

where are you from?

Italy, my grandfather moved over here, while one or 2 of his other brothers stayed on in Matulji / Opatjia and another moved to the US of whom we know nothing.

a while back, i asked my dad about an 'ivan puz'--he said he thought it was his grandfathers (frank's)cousin. do you have any more info on ivan, aside from him moving to the usa? as in why he moved, the name of the woman, etc? i have seen a few old records of our family which came from croatia, and alot of the time the ages or dates dont match. probably the language barrier, but they dont have record keeping like now.
