Trying to find more about the ancestry of Kuzma Puz from the village of Spincici, Croatia. His father was Ivan and his mother Marija.

I really don't have a reply to question, but my grandparents came to US from Croatia,Yugoslavia. His name was Frank and hers was Mary. The only information I can find from surviving reletives is that my kin migrated from Yugoslavia to Alaska, where my father was born. They than took a boat from Alaska thru the Panama Canal up to the St. Lawrence Seaway and than migrated to Western Pennslyvania.I do have a aunt that visited Yugoslavia to visit the birth place of our ancestors but I really have't talked to her in depth to get much info. She did state that with the war in the country a lot of churches have been destroyed and in these countries they do not have county seats like we do for pertinent information.I do intent to discuss a little more with her about our ancestery before she gets too old to remember anything.I can tell you this much;I thought that the name of PUZ was quite unique until I got into geneology.Sorry I couldn't be of much help unless my aunt can enlighten me with more info. sincerely John R.Puz Jr.

I have very little information abour my great grandfather Joe Puz, later changed to Push,. I am told he came to this country with two brothers Frank, and Mark. I beleive they must have arrived in the early 1890's. The first records of them that I can find show that they were woodsmen in Kentucky in the late 1890's.

Interesting post, similiar to my family background, but slightly different and first names don't match. My great-grandfather settled close to Omaha, NE around the 1890's or so. His name was Julian Push, I was told as a child that his last name had originally been Pusch, but that he had changed it. Julian died around 1910-1915. I always understood that his family had migrated from Germany, though I heard at times Russia. He was supposedly a very accomplished musician.

possible relative (frank puz)
my grandfather leon puz told me his father frank puz jumped ship and swam to alaska (not a long swim i dont think) with either his brothers or friends i dont remember. he came to alaska and found a job and went back to croatia to get his wife mary that he married when he came back to alaska. my grandfather was born in juneau alaska and they left when he was 8 months old. they moved to western pennsylvania, where they had a total of 16 children, eight of whom died very close together from the spanish flu. it was so bad that some oof them were buried in the same graves. i dont know where those graves are though.

i heard that maybe the reason that my great grandfather moved to america was because he may have killed a man. i dont know this for sure. its possible because he lived i n a turbulent place in a turbulent time. my grandfather told me it was because he did not want to fight in the wars with yugoslavia ( i guess with todays serbia). i finally got to see so many pictures of those people when my grandfather passed away.

more info about puz family
mary puz, formerly mary stanbul lived in a small town close to zagreb (and i dont remember the name ) she lived in what looked like a hut. my aunt went to the church where her name was registered, and found it. but my great grandfathers church and records and former home had all burned (my aunt went to her mothers former home). we also have a second or third cousin named deshona who lives in italy and during the second world war, it may have been john puz, or maybe melon, who captured a platoon, and heard some speaking in croatian and he joined in the conversation, and he realized that one of the men he captured was his own second cousin (deshonas brother.)
