Puvogel, Johann Germany/NYC
Seeking anyone connection to Johann and Bertha Puvogel who came to the US from Germany about 1884. Johann's father was also Johann and his mother Marie Duncan. Johann and Bertha had children: Marie, Lilie, John, Herman a/k/a Fred, Elsa, Bertha and Meta. They lived in NYC, then the Bronx, then moved to Queens, New York.

My great grandfather, Heinrich Puvogel, came to NYC about 1865 from Achim, Germany. I have more information.

Dee, I think we have corresponded before. Tell me a little about your Heinrich to see if it sounds familiar to me. Maryanne

Frank Puvogel was my grandfather, he died in 1962. He came from Gremany in the late 1800s and married Jessie Cromer in Michigan around 1900. He had several brothers and sisters in the Southfield, Royal Oak area of Mich.

I was adopted, and recently had my records made available to me by a court decision. My birth mother's mother was Anna Puvogel, but I am still trying to locate my mother's family, and so have no one there to ask.
All I know about Anna is that she was first married to Ernest Aubrey Case and was living in Westhampton, Long Island, NY, when my mother was born there in 1913. Anna had married someone else, whose name I don't know, by the time I was born in 1944.
Based on my mother's birth year, and the fact that she was Anna's first child, I would guess that Anna was born no later than 1894, and probably a little earlier than that. The report I have on my mother's family, which was made in 1946, indicates that my mother's mother (Anna Puvogel) "was German."
Any connection with your people?

Sorry to say that I have no Anna Puvogel. I do know that my Puvogels came from Germany - I have information that both Johann and Bertha came from "Hanover" Germany but have nothing on them as to relatives etc. other than their own children.

Just noticed your listing from last November.
My maternal grandmother (whom I never met--I was adopted, though I am now in contact with my mother's family, who don't know very much about their ancestors) was ANNA PUVOGEL.
My mother was born in 1912, and was Anna's first child (by her marriage to a man whose surname was Case). My mother's death certificate indicates that her mother, Anna, was born in NY.
Anna would have been born in the late 1880s or very early 1890s.
Anna connection with your Puvogels?

My grandmother was also Anna Puvogel, born in NY in 1884. She married a Soffel and they moved to Redlands, California. My mother was also her first born, born in 1915. I don't know of any connection between our two Annas. My Puvogels came from Achim, Germany. Henry Puvogel had a Hansom Cab Company in Manhatten. His family home was in Hicksville. His brother Richard was here with him but I don't know of a daughter, Anna.

My grandfather was richard/dick Puvogel who lived in Germany but moved to Hiawatha Kansas. Any connection?

Rick--your mail re: your grandfather Richard/Dick Puvogel was apparently forwarded to me by Dee Owens. Dee and I are third cousins through a Puvogel connection (we met through this research, never face-to-face).
I don't know much about my Puvogel connections but am very interested. I do know that my maternal grandmother was born Sophie Anna Puvogel, in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents were both from Germany. Her mother's name was Dorothea (don't know the maiden name) and I have no idea who her father, the Puvogel, was.
Dee is fairly sure that this same male Puvogel, my great-grandfather, was Richard (probably originally Dietrich). She doesn't know anything more about him than his name, and that his father was Johann Puvogel in Achim (suburb of Bremen), Germany.
My grandmother Sophie Anna Puvogel was born in 1890 (as I mentioned, in Brooklyn). The 1910 Census indicates that her mother Dorothea was 58 at that time, indicating that Dorothea was born around 1852. That same Census indicates that Dorothea was a widow as of 1910 (indicating that my great-grandfather--Richard?--had died by then--or maybe just skipped town and his wife preferred to see herself as his widow rather than his cast-off).
I have no information regarding brothers and sisters of my grandmother Sophie Anna (that would be other children of Richard Puvogel), but I would imagine that she had some.
If Richard Puvogel was my great-grandmother Dorothea's husband, he would have been born around the same time as she was, 1852 (unless there was a May-December marriage there!).
This is all the information on my Puvogels that I have. Does it sound to you like your grandfather Richard might be my great-grandfather? This would be great news for me, both for making a connection which now is pretty iffy, as well as making contact with another relative.
Please let me know if there seems to be a connection here!
