Your welcome.

Is that not your John / Janos/Jan/Ivan/Iwan in the EI site?
You know that you backtrack from yourself finding the place of birth on your parents, their parents, their parents. Someplace in the documents should be a place of birth of the one that came from "old country".
I do not have a paid subscription to Ancestry. You might try your local library.
Is one of the 5 PUTANKOs in SSDI a direct ancestor or a son of one? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com

Thanks for the info. Yes I do know I start from myself.
I haven't replied because I'm waiting for info from my Aunt, last living relative in my Father's generation.
I really appreciate all your help.

hi! just saw this!

My grandmother (father's mother) was mary putanko (married name Melega)and lived in windsor, ontario. Her sister was Josephine Putanko (married name zametz) who lived in Youngstown, Ohio, and their brother was john putanko and he lived in Pennsylvania. I have confirmed that same info with her papers that my father still has! There is very little info on the Putanko side of the family. Their mother lived with my grandmother here in Windsor when she came here.

Hi, just read your post re: your grandmother, her sister & her brother "John". I think John is my father's father, my grandfather. Where were they born? Do you have any other info on that part of the family?
Thanks!
