My maiden name was Barbara Puorro. I was born in Boston. My father was James Puorro and his father was Nicholas Puorro, who came to this country from Italy around 1905. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they are related to me.

My father-in-law recently passed away. His name was Edward Puorro and he was born in Boston in 1921. We found an incomplete family tree...his father who was born in Italy was Anthony Puorro. He had 3 brothers: Thomas, James (Florida?) and Nicolo and 2 sisters: Angelina and Carmela. Anthony married Theresa Sheeran from Boston. They had four children.

Lisa:
Your father-inlaw, Edward, was my first cousin. I am the only child of James Puorro, who resided in Florida in his later years. He died about 10 years ago. I recall that Edward had a brother Robert, a sister Claire and a brother whose name I think was Tom--all my first cousins.
Thomas, Anthony's brother, had two sons Thomas, Jr. and Richard. I believe they live in MA.
I tried to attach a photo to this msg. but it didn't take.

Hi Barbara,
It's nice to meet you! You are correct in remembering your cousins. Ed had two brothers and a sister. His brother Robert who lived at the Cape died quite a while ago. His sister Claire still lives on the Cape and his youngest brother Tom lives in California. His email address if you are interested is TPureo@aol.com. Ed had four sons, Donald, John, Richard and Duane. I am married to Duane. We all live in Connecticut.

Joel: Tell me how you are connected to the Puorro family. Who is your mother? We may be related. I was born in Boston and grew up there, the only daughter of James Puorro, whose father came from Italy around 1905.

Hi Lisa:
I notice that a Joel Puorro has posted a message re the Puorro family. I don't recognize a single name in the list that he gave. I am certain that they are not part of our family.
Any news of the family to pass along?

Hi, Barbara. I don't mean to intrude, but the names of Jimmy and Catherine Puorro were raised by my mother and me recently. My family lived across the street from them in West Roxbury on Russett Road. I know that after your mother passed away, your father re-married and moved to FL. My family is related to Anna D'Apote. She was my father's aunt. I am told that Anna and Catherine referred to each other as "step-cousins", but that there is no blood-relationship. The reason for talking about your parents was that I had visited my Dad's gravesite (he passed away in 1982) at St. Joseph's Cemetery and my Mom mentioned that your mother's grave was right around the bend. My Mother, who is 71 years of age, started to wonder what ever happened to you. She thought that you married a politician and moved to DC.

I found you using Google and read some of the messages from ~2003. I think that I have the right person. My Mother is not familiar w/ your dad's family, but if you have any questions that you would like answered, I'd be happy to put you in touch w/ her or pose the questions to her.

If I have the wrong Barbara Puorro, then I apologize and am sorry to bother you.

Hello Fred:
I am the right person. My father remarried 3 months after my mother died and moved to Florida. We never saw each other again. He died in 1993. I have no idea where he is buried. It's a sad story.
I went to Wellesley, studied in France and Germany for 2 years and got a Ph.D. I taught at the University of Maryland and worked for NSA. I live outside of Washington,D.C. I am married to a corporate lawyer and have 3 grown children. Thanks for writing.
