Hi there Diane,
I'm curious to know if we're bothing looking for the same people. How exactly are you tied into the Puorro name? My mother's maiden name is Puorro, as well as the name of my grandparents, Nathan and Jeanette. Do those names ring a bell?

Sincerely,
Dion Rupa

Well, three's a charm. I also am researching the name PUORRO. James Puorro b. 19 March 1888 of Naples, Italy. He d. 24 October 1946 in the US (probably NJ). He married Johanna Galliano/Gagliano, d/o Joseph Galliano/Gagliano and Francesca Cannova. I can't tie James to Frank yet but who knows! Their children were: Raymond, Joseph, Mildred, Frances Marie, George, and Philip Emanuel - all from NJ. Mildred is my husband's mother. There can't be that many Puorro's so this has to work together somewhere wouldn't you think? Would love to hear from you - Sharon at SLEE3377@aol.com

Hi Sharon:
My father's family were from Newark. I was a small child when my grandfather passed on and I never knew my grandmother who had passed on years before. He had remarried and brought a bride from Italy. I will checkto see if my sister knows what her name was. They had five boys together. Fred, Pat, Chick (don't know real name), Frank (my father, deceased for 7 years) and I cannot recall the youngests name. He was from the second wife and last I heard was a fireman, had married an Irish girl and were living in the area of Englishtown (?) Their first daughter was named Gabrielle. There was another daughter I believe but I don't remember what her name was. We have had no contact with the family in many many years. What a shame. Good luck to you. If you find a connection I would love to hear from you. Many thanks for your note. PS Youngest brother may have been Mario and is the only surviving brother. I remember visiting my grandfather (Baldisario) on Fabian Pl. in Newark. Hope this helps. Janice

Janice,
I just spoke with my mother-in-law and she doesn't know any of the names you mention either. I responded to this original message to see if there was a connection but I have not found one. It does seem strange that two unrelated Puorro families where all living in Newark, NJ at the same time. She did say, however, that she did know of another Puorro family that lived around the corner on Bergen Street and they ran a grocery store. If you are ever able to find a connection let me know and I will also.

Hello- My dad and I are trying to also search the Puorro family from Italy. My great grandmother Otina Puorro would have immigrated around the late 1800's or early 1900's. My grandfather (her son) was born about 1906 in I think Boston Mass. Then somehow ending up in Ct. Please let me know if you have any info on her. Also check the Ellis Island passenger records, the manifiests list many people with that name that immigrated between 189__ to 1924.
Thank you....Edie
