Wallasey census 1881,address Zig Zag Hall.
ISAAC PUMFORD,police officer age 43 born FLASH,STAFFS
MARY A PUMFORD,wife age 40 born LEEK STAFFS
WILLIAM PUMFORD son, errand boy age 13 born HARTFORD CHESHIRE.
OPHELIA PUMFORD daughter scholar age 6 born BUGLAWTON CHESHIRE.
This family is wrongly transcribed on the LDS 1881 census as PICKFORD.I got this information 20 yrs ago from the local library,as far as I know these were the first Pumfords in Wallasey.
I had some information from the electoral rolls for Wallasey for an ABRAHAM and an ISAAC PUMFORD living in Church Street tenements,I have mislaid this so I cannot give a date.
From local directories this:
1893
GEORGE PUMFORD 9,Greenfield Cottages,labourer.
1897
EDWARD PUMFORD,11&13 Union St,Egremont,confectioner.
FRANCIS PUMFORD,14 Milton Rd. Seacombe,mariner
GEORGE PUMFORD,18 Greenfield Cottages,Union St.Egrmont.
JOHN PUMFORD,39 Shakespeare Rd. Seacombe bricklayer.
WILLIAM PUMFORD,5,Gresford Place,Egremont coal dealer
WILLIAM PUMFORD,17,Union St. Egremont coal dealer.
I know there was more Pumfords around Union St.and Gresford Place but I do not have that information. If you search the Cheshire FHS BMD you will find quite a few listed, also there was a family of Pumfords left Seacombe for America, you will find these listed on Ellis Island records,in addition the uk gov PRO-CAT has entries for Pumford Wallasey,I think they relate to the mariner.I have not researched this name yet and had forgotten this information until my memory was jogged by someone getting in touch, hope it helps
regards Maureen Pumford.
