Trying to find the birth, marriage, and World War I Italian military records of my grandfather's (Evnagelista Lorusso) two older brothers - Domenico (Dominic), Vito (Vittorio?). My grandfather, Evangelista was born Sept 18, 1900 in Bari, Altamura and died August 3, 1986, in New Milford, N.J.. Their parents were Michele Lorusso born August 13, 1858 and Teresa Ninivaggi, born December 1, 1858 in Altamura, Bari, Italy. They were married on October 11, 1884 in Altamura, Bari, Italy. Domenico and Vito were wounded in WWI fighting for Italy against the Germans. One was shot in the arm; the other in the face. Evangelista emigrated to America, arriving on April 15, 1921 at Ellis Island. He married Maria Antonia Fariello on February 3, 1924. They had five daughters and I have complete records of his daughters and their descendants. I have nothing on his brothers, but their names and one picture showing one brother with my grandfather as a baby, who appears to be 4-5 years older than my grandfather. I believe the brothers never emigrated to America.

Thank you for those records. In the two years since I posted my message, I had already found those birth records from a Bari website ( http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato... ) I learned about, plus birth and marriage records for their sons, Domenico, Vito, and Francesco. Also found the military records for Domenico and Vito and the death record for Vito. What I am still missing are death records for Domenico and Francesco Lorusso and also any records of children they and Vito Lorusso may have had.

Dennis, I've done something similar with records for another town in Sicily. Was somewhat difficult because each individual year, though put in a spreadsheet by the developer who was studying that town, had its own spreadsheet format. Could you send me a copy of the spreadsheet you've developed? Are you related to the Lorusso family?

Is your customer related to one of my Lorusso or Ninivaggi names? If yes, is he interested in talking to a Lorusso/Ninivaggi descendant (myself)? Michele Lorusso is my great grandfather and Teresa Ninivaggi is my great grandmother. I have 4 more generations of Lorusso ancestors on my Tree and 3 more generations of Ninivaggi.

Ron,

I have added your information to my tree. So far, we are not connected.

If I find a connection I will contact you.

As far as records after 1900/1910, writing to the commune is the only way to gather more information.
