My grandfather was called Calogero Puma and he was from Canicatti in Sicily. I know a couple of people from this town went to the Americas and I'm wondering if I have any relatives over there. I'm in England by the way.

Hi...my name is Angela and I come from a very long line of Puma's but I've only found information on them dating back to the early 1800's. Most of our Puma family came from Racalmuto, Sicily, Italy. My 3rd great grandparents are Calogero Puma and Maria Grazia Mantione. I'm not sure if the time period fits your great grandfather's age but it was worth messaging you to see if possibly, there's a connection.

I keep a second tree of Puma people who came from Racalmuto. I have over 900 Puma names on it, but most are not related to me. My hope is that some of them are, but just unknown yet. While I do not know their parents, I show they had at least 4 children - Francesco who died in 1889, Salvatore who died in 1877, a Salvatore who was born in 1844 (may be the same person), Paola born in 1852, and Ignazia born in 1859. Salvatore married a Giuseppa Rotolo and has at least 2 children. Paola married a Vincenzo Rizzo (haven't found children). Ignazia married a Calogero Rizzo (born 1852). don't know about children.

Hello Angela,

The Puma's in Montedoro are from Racalmuto as are many other families in Montedoro.
I the mid to late 1600's these families moved to the new town and settled there.

There were a lot of things going on in sicily at the time that forced them to move.

The Sciandras and others in montedoro are all family if you look close enough
