Hello! I was wanting to know if anyone has seen this family listed as Butcher in the Clinton county 1860 census Illinois page 123. This family appears to be the Pulchers that I have not been able to find before 1880 in any census. John 26 head, Mary 50, ( Jongola)? 28, Frank 18, George 15. Frank and George are the brothers I believe that went to Jackson county first. Mary would be Anne Marie Didier the wife of Jean Baptiste Pulcher. My line comes from Frank ( Francois Xavier Pulcher) and his son Frank. I know the story is that they came to Cahokia and went straight to murphysburo but you cant find them there until 1880. I have also found Frank in the 1870 census in St Clair county listed as Pelletier on page 34 T2N R10W. We know that Frank married Louisa Poirot in this county in 1865. This family is Frank 28, Louisa 20, Louisa 4. The name appears to me to be Pellcher. Imagine the heavy French accent and the sometimes illiterate census taker. Any comments would be greatly appriciated.

HELLO! I have also discovered in the 1860 mortality schedules of Clinton county Illinois a John Butcher who died in April 1860 just before the census was taken and to my amazement the same person did the schedule as well as the census. I believe this is our Jean Baptiste Pulcher!
