Sorry my response is SO delayed. The Balnanosis name is in my family tree as well. My great-grandfather Joseph Martin Pukas had a sister named Catherine (1890-1956), and she married Simon Balnanosis (1888-1962). They had two children, Alma (d. 1981) and
Alberta (d. 1979); both are buried in <a href=http://searches1.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/pa/schuylkil.... Francis of Assisi Cemetery</a>, Minersville, Schuykill County, PA. Apparently the Balnanosises were buried near my great-grandparents (Pukases).

Joseph Martin Pukas, my great-grandfather, died in 1944. Here is an excerpt from his obituary:

***
He was born in Lithuania and came to this country over 40 years ago, settling in Minersville. He resided in Frackville (Pennsylvania) for 26 years, and then removed to Minersville. He was employed at Oak Hill colliery up until the time of his illness. He was a member of St. Francis' Lithuanian Church, Minersville.

Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine Liatunick; one son, Theodore, Frackville, and two daughters, Mrs. Anthony Melcavage, Turkey Run, and Mrs. Jacob Powell, Philadelphia. He is further survived by five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Simon Balnanosis, Minersville, and his mother, brother, and sister in Europe.
***

The important part is the last line, about the unnamed "mother, brother, and sister" that were still in Europe in 1944. Joseph Martin Pukas's father's name was Martin Pukas, and his mother's name was Katherine (Zobas) Pukas. John/Jonas Pukas could possibly be Joseph Martin Pukas's brother (or brother's son), but you would need to look farther back in John/Jonas's lineage... Funny they both married Kathleens/Katherines. :)

Surnames: Charubin, Bonk, Drozdowski
The Charubin portion of my family tree is extremely hazy.

My great-great-grandparents were Francis (Frank) Charubin and Josephine Szywik.

Franek Charubin, Jr. was the oldest of their children. Next of the Charubin siblings was my great-grandmother, Blanche Charubin Drozdowski (1890-1981); she married a man named Leopold (he was killed in a fire in around 1928 or so). The birth order continues with another male Charubin, then Ethel (or Alice?) Charubin, followed by three female Charubins. A total of seven Charubin children. Sorry, I don't know of a Stephanie, Lutrzykowski, or Lutz. I just lack information, though.

Leopold and Blanche lived on Wolfe Street in Baltimore in a marble-stepped home, then on a 200-acre farm near Marydel, MD, circa 1928. After that, Blanche moved to Jackson St., Wilmington, DE (and then to Logan St.?).

Blanche's daughter (my grandmother) Mary Ann Bonk & her family used to stay with Stanley Drozdowski (Leopold's brother) who lived on Liberty Street. They had Ann, the eldest, Agnes, Stanley, Henry & Louis, all cousins of Mary Ann Drozdowski Bonk.

I actually tried to seek out 405 Porter Street in Wilmington--the Bonk side of my family used to live there. Apparently, it's just an empty lot now, but there is a wonderful huge old tree down the street that I loved and photographed.

Born in 1945, my mother (and her six sisters?) attended St. Hedwigs. I went there one time for a ravioli-filled reunion many summers ago. :)

Surnames: Charubin, Zonak
My Grandmother came from Lodz Poland. Her name was Sophie Charubin. She married Joseph Zonak. Sophie left for the United States in 1920. I was told she had many brothers and sisters. One of the names was Chester. I was also told she had 3 children that died from Black Plague?? The children would have died between 1913 and 1920. She came to USA and had 6 additional children, one being my father. Any information would be much appreciated. I am having little luck with finding info on either family.
