I am interested to know if some of you Pujols are related. My Grandmother was a Pujol who married a Dubois in St. Charles Mo Her GGGrandfather was sent to the Missouri territory by the Spanish Government to help settle the land. His name was John Baptiste Pujol and records show that he was one of the original settlers of a small river town by the name of Portage Des Sioux Missouri. He married Marie J. Petit. His son was Jean Baptiste Pujol who married Marie J. Moitie on Nov. 13, 1785 in St. Charles County Mo. died in 1847. His children were Jean Baptiste Pujol and Antoine Pujol Jean Baptiste II was married on 7/14/1814 to Marguerite Pepin. The following is an article from a St. Charles Church Publication.
In the spring of 1799 The village of Portage des Sioux was laid out. The government induced many Creole Indians to settle there. Among the early inhabitants of Portage Des Sioux were Pedro Vial who was sent by the governor of New Mexico to explore a route from SanteFe to St. Louis in 1789 Baptiste Pujol and Solomon Petine came to Portage des Sioux from the lower fields of St. Charles in 1799 The settlers were used as defenders of the fort until the teritory was ceded to the U.S. in 1803 Lot # 109 was named in an old survey map as belonging to Baptiste Pujol.
I am hoping this info will make some connection with someone out there.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT PART OF SPAIN BAPTISTE PUJOL CAME FROM? THERE ARE SOME FRENCH PUJOL AS WELL AS SPANISH.
|
The Pujol family name exists both in Spain and in France. In Catalonia,Spain and in Provence, France. Both regions are adjacent just across the border which explains why you have the Pujol surname in both countries.

I would like to get in touch with any of the PUJOLs in Costa Rica.

My great grandfather came to Cuba in the 1800's from a town by the name of Figueres in Catalunya, Spain. I don't know his first name, but my grandfather's name was Laureano and he had a brother named Juan. I don't know if he had other brothers or sisters. They established themselves near Santa Clara, Cuba and began a banking business there, Banco Pujol.

I have also been researching the Pujol surname at St. Charles County Historical Society located in St. Charles, MO. I have found the following: Jean Baptiste Pujol, son of Joseph and Marie Laroux, married Marie J. Moitie/Moitier, daughter of Joseph and Felicite Rollet, on Nov. 13, 1785. The church record taken from St. Louis King of France Church (Old Cathedral in St. Louis) is available in "Catholic Marriages St. Louis, Missouri 1774-1840" published by St. Louis Genealogical Society, May 1982 (second printing). The record stated that Jean Baptiste's parents were "...Joseph and Marie Laroux of Catalonia, Spain..." This Jean Baptiste was one of the early settlers of Portage des Sioux, MO.
Children of Jean Baptiste and Marie J. Moitie/Moitier were: Marie Rose, Julie, Jean Baptiste (who married Marguerite Papin), Louis, Antoine, Emilie, Joseph, Andre, and Francois. Baptism records were found in "Catholic Baptisms St. Louis, MO 1765-1840" published by St. Louis Genealogical Society (1982), "St. Charles Borromeo 200 Years of Faith", and "St. Francis Catholic Church Portage des Sioux St. Charles County, MO" published by Land Between the Rivers Historical Society (2000).
All publications mentioned are located at St. Charles County Historical Society, 101 South Main St., St. Charles, MO 63301
