Would anyone know how surnames are combined.

My great grandfather came from Catalonia. He used the name Eduardo Solo Puig.

Would Solo have been his mother's maiden name? Is this common?

I'm trying to trace my ancestors in Spain if anyone has advice.

Thank you,

rick

Are you related to this line? I have been having trouble getting beyond Eduardo's father, who I believe is Vincente Puig (according to his New York City marriage certificate). His Mother, I have as Teresa Sola.

Eduardo is my great grandfather.

Could you give more information about your Puig ancestor. The name Puig is very common so if you cannot precise a little more it will be very difficult to start searching.
My maternal name is Puig.
