I am looking for any information anyone has on the Puhl or Waldhaus families from the Canton, MO and Quincy Il area. The time frame is between 1800-1910.

My grandfather, Joseph Waldhaus, moved from Qunicy to Ohio probably in the '20. I don't have much information his history before that. Is he a leaf on your tree?

All I know is my fathers mother was Sadie Waldhaus (I think possibly Sara). She had another son that was a half brother to my father. His name was Melvin. Melvin still has some children living in Quincy at least two sons. Frank and Chuck Waldhaus. Is there any relationship there? Please let me know.

Catherine Waldhaus (b. 6/22/1847)in Quincy, IL married Philip Gross on 11/1/1863. She died 11/27/1892 in Durham, MO. Catherine is my husband's gg-grandmother. I don't have any other information on the Waldhaus side.

Would you know if Catherine was possibly the mayors (of Quincy) daughter. My father once told me a story about 40 years ago. It appears the Mayor(I think) of Quincy was related to him through his mother. I don't know the relationship but maybe grandfather. Waldhaus was mayor during the Lincoln Douglas debate held in Quincy. He even said that Lincoln sent this person a thank you letter and my father took it to school on "share day" back in about 1918. I sure would love to find that letter now.

Re: waldhaus' in quincy il
I believe all the Waldhaus' from the Quincy Area are related to George Fredrick Waldhaus.George Fredrick Waldhaus landed in New Orleans on 1/1/1838. Shortly after moving up the Mississippi to Quincy.

I have a plate depicting the Lincoln/Douglas debate, would there be any interest from anyone to puchase this plate from me?
|
If you still have the plate could you post a picture or just send one directly to me? Any info on the plate you may have would also be of some interest. Is this a Waldhaus family member posting this? Sadie Waldhaus was my grandmother on om fathers side. Merle Puhl was her son.
